Greetings

Hello, just found this site, I had the toy steam bug as a youth, and this site amongst others has rekindled my interest.

I have a large collection, mostly stored away in my grandmothers attic. But has one or two gems.
Mamodman123

A big welcome to the forum!

Gems? Lets hear more

cheers MM

Welcome 8_10 Brass Cleaner.
I'm sure there is a story behind your user name which you can tell us one day should you feel like it.

I guess its time for you to visit your grandmother and clean out her attic then and find your collection.

Hope you enjoy our forum.

Welcome aboard - and like everyone else we want to know whats in the attic - steam related of course.
Some pics would be great but first you must overcome the challenge of finding how to include a pic on your post!
it can be a lot of fun

Hi BC.
Have been looking at your website.

Don't let James know you have a real life steam roller under restoration or he will be around in a flash.
You've been doing some serious work on that and will be great when finished.
Unfortunately I think I've busted your website download limit so I cant look at the last few pages.
Will have to check again another night.

Another welcome from the other extreme of the steam world. Hope you enjoy your time on the forum.

Well, now got an Avatar, will it do?

Whats in the attic, well lets see, I collected rook of engines pre internet, so at the time I didnt have a scooby what half of them were, if it wasnt in Toyshop Steam I didnt have a clue. But anyways, I have at home:-

Jensen 25 and the kit oscillator (76?) That is one of my favourite engines.

I have a Mamod TEWK doctored into a 'Crane engine', also a blue Waggon, and a wick burner minor (as the load!). Also a 70's SE2a with a leak on the steam pipe where it comes out of the boiler and a crooked endcap, but it runs grand nevertheless and was a snip at £6 about 15 years ago. Oh yes and a 1950's kit wooden boat with the ME3 Marine engine in it.

In my grans attic, well, theres the Bowman M122, rooks of 60's and 70's Mamods including a nut and bolt TE1 with a smooth roof (pretty early it seems), a SR1 (rivetted one) along with the later TE1a and SR1a. I also had a spoked flywheel roadster, It never seemed to go well and then the boiler leaked so I chopped it up and made it into a 'Jones Patent' stationary engine, making a engine frame for it in brass. I have a flat base SE1 with a brass flywheel, but it wants the boiler soldering and sorting out. There is somewhere a brand new in box never been steamed ME1, a Meccano job, another SE2a this time with an external soldered patch over the whistle hole.

2 Bings, one like the 1908 powerstation in Toyshop Steam, mine is a couple of year younger going on the trademark, and another vertical boiler job with the engine hund on the side.

It seems I have a SEL minor, also a spare marine engine, and a very rough Major in pieces. The engine is ok, but a dimwit had been at the boiler, I was at one point going to fit the Major in the boat, a bit like Bowmans larger boats with 'twin power'!

A plane 4 (?) (never knew what it was, but found out on here!). Also one of those Cyldon rotary valve engines without a boiler. I ran it once on a spare boiler and it was sh1te!.

Put it this way, I had nearly 60 engines of one sort or another by the time I was 15, packed them all away to move house, and most have stayed there. They must have been packed away nearly 15 years!. I keep seeing pics on this site and thiking 'I have one of those'. Christ knows where they all are mind!

As for my website, its one of those free ones, and it is very easy to use all my data transfer, just come back at a later date and have a look see.

Wow sounds like you have a serious collection.

I would be interested to see the boat with the Me3 in it as I have one of those lying around waiting for me to do something with it.

I would also like to see the Bings as you dont get many early engines like that in Australia.
Mamodman123

Jesus sound like you have a top collection!#

The TE1 sounds like the first ever one with the smooth canopy. Manxman will bites your arms off for that one

A flatbase SE1 as well, sounds interesting!

We need pictures would be really great to see them all in more detail if possible.

Avatar looks great too
IndianaRog

Hi 8_10 BC...

First off...cool avatar...don't know how you got it to scroll several pics, but very cool indeed!

Your collection sounds like it needs to be retrieved from Gran's attic and wherever else it's scattered...you have some top notch stuff it sounds like and now that you are here...we make it a priority to re-invigorate long repressed collecting habits. In no time we will have you squandering your rent money on another "must have".

As a collector I favor the Jensen line...the 25 and 76 kit engine (60 factory assembled) are a couple of wonderful pieces.

Yup, you have come to right place...we'll clear a spot for ya and hope to see you back regularly with engines, pics and videos if possible.

cheers,
Roger
Steve_S

That's a serious collection! So you have a Latimer Plane L4, and a Cyldon Semirotative? And Jensens? And an M122? And lots of Mamods? We need pictures!
steamgranny

Oh my! An attic-full of little treasures, a hit & miss AND a real live Fowler. Sounds like a steamer’s paradise to me!!
Can’t wait for the ‘crown jewels’ to be retrieved, dusted off, fired & filmed in all their glory.
A huge welcome BC
Manxman

That's it. Off to your Grans to collect your engines. Lots of pics including the 1963 TE1 with flat roof. And MM's right, be ready for a pm asking if you're willing to sell.
Stilldrillin

A Derbyshire welcome to the forum BC!

I cleared my attic recently.
I had a wonderfull time, reminiscing & re-discovering old steam memories.
