Up until a few days ago I had even forgotten 
It's still tomorrow on this side of the world, but we're having the cake tonight (just not very much for me).
Best present so far? Going shopping yesterday and finding I'm down 2 pants sizes from last fall. Slow going, but it's going in the right direction

one point seven five score years....
..a score is 20, right? 
we've long switched over to number candles... I miss the old straight ones, walking around the cake like tally marks, dribbling wax all over.
And the trick ones that someone brought back from the US that would relight themselves when you blew them out. Those were such a gas
Minigolf and bowling were what we did in the days before even colecovision came to be, never mind the VCR.
The world was small, and cozy, rather than small and frightful. A drive of 20 minutes could take you places you saw only a few times a year (other than the dentist).
Sometimes I wonder if it was ever real.
So, yeah.... steam probably qualifies as my midlife crisis cure

Sheesh, your only a spring chicken yet, a long way to go before your an old fart like me, , I'm more tham 3 score. I rather like discribing age like that, it seems that I'm a lot younger.
I like the idea of the trick birthday candles, must see if I can get some one day,
I know what you mean about the nostalgia, all of a sudden the world has got too big and too small at the same time,
