Hello from London, about me...

Hi all,

I have been posting odd bits around the forum but my interest is in Meccano as well as steam. The Meccano forum is a bit quiet and muttering to one's self can drive you nuts!

I have three steam engines; two 1929 vertical boilers, one of each type, and a tatty but very efficient horizontal boiler 1965 model. My wife and I also run a Meccano website  (just for the fun of it, no ads or commercial gain)  You will find it here www.my-meccano.co.uk and if you click the Hello button you will be able to read how I got hooked. The News section is full of our adventures with lots of pictures of models and even some steam engines. I hope you find something interesting there!

Ralph, London, England.

Welcome to you..sorry as I have not been over onthe Meccano section at all... I thought I was lonely with just a few of us on the boats section when I first arrived a year ago...The Meccano is much more so....

Your site is a nice one and Meccano is so inventive and not limited except by ones imagination!!

cheers to you

A warm welcome to the forum, Ralph, from Richard and Andrew in the US Virgin Islands.

Like Mo, I've experienced the quiet solitude of the Steam Boats and Launches section, although it has now become much more active of late.

Looking at your website, the same resurgence may soon be true for Meccano.  Post on Collections and Pics and then divert people to Meccano.  Your pictures are absolutely superb.

Hi, Ralph,
and a  big ! from Germany

Many of the later Model engineers get hooked on model engineering by different construction Kits like Meccano or Fischertechnik or things like that in their youth  .Grown up there will be real artists.

And so it goes : As everything is possible you can build a steamdriven engine you are dreaming of. At the STIA Video Sandy made of this years venue there was a Meccano steam excavator with all functions working steam driven . It was very impressive !

cheers Joe

Hi,
I 've got a moderate collection of Meccano and have been building the set 9 fire truck.
It has been put on hold for a bit and I have two young boys who don't understand why they can't touch the half built firetruck.
Nothing worse than spending a few hours building at night and coming home from work the next day to find my wife has let him 'play' with it and now I have 4 hours worth of repair to do it.

Here is the last photo I took of it.
It has progressed further, the cab roof is finished and the base of the ladder has now been built.

Hi Ralph, and welcome from a rainy blustery Scotland.

Toy steam and Meccano go well together, and indeed many engines were drilled to suit. I've just bought a Meccano engine this week, and as I've a lot of wheels, gears etc, I might just have a dabble myself.

Great to see you here mate. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Sandy.

Hi Ralph, can't say I'm into Meccano, but being an American, I grew up with what we called Erector Sets...great fun.  I think I'm keeping Meccano/Erector stuff at arms length because I just don't need another hobby pursuit right now and I know I could get hooked easily.

Sorry the Meccano section is sort of quiet, but boats were not too long ago and they have blossomed into a rather large fleet of captains!!!

cheers from Indiana, USA
