Hello there!!

Hi there.

Im James and 18 from Gainsborough. Im currently at Bishop Grosseteste University College, Lincoln reading Heritage Studies.
Although my main interest is in full size engines I do, however, own a couple of Wilesco engines. I own a D14 and a D405 which I still get going every now and then.

On full size, I am helping to restore an Aveling Convertible, I help out on an Aveling Roller (which I got into through the SAC years ago, so its a club worth joining) and when I have some time at rallies I may be found on with a Fowler Phloughing engine.

I am a committee member on Gainsborough Heritage Association and so do a lot of work with old Documents, spares books, employment registers, all sorts rally to do with Marshall Sons and Co. of which a have a major interest.
We actually used to have a museum in Marshalls offices before we were forced to leave due to demolition.

If you want to know anything else, just contact me, no probs.

See you for now.
James

Hi there! Gainsborough

I really don't believe it I thought everyone in Gainsborough had moved on from the days when we were the workshop of the world and I was the only one left behind in the good old days!

See www.mamods.piczo.com on the Marshall's page.

Best wishes and I really do hope you stick around!

James
James

Where abouts in Gainsborough do you come from mate?
Em

hello!

fancy seeing you here!

just to fill in a blank jim and i do the same course at uni.

actually he picked up on something iv been wondering. who on here, if any one is in the SAC?
James

You know each other then??
Em

yeah, we even took up volunteering at the same time!
jim-gainsborosteam

oh no , there are still some of us around. Only problem is that the majority worked for Marshalls and in a few years time that majority may be gone. Im just glad that theres someone out there younger than myself who is interested.
If you are really into Marshalls the I would suggest that you give www.gainsboroughheritage.com a looking at.
I dont know if you've heard of Gainsborough Heritage Association, but they do hold a lot of stuff about Marshalls. Books, ledgers, drawings etc. So give them a checking. Also try http://marshallsons.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/index.jhtml which is a little something I put together last year. Basic but informative.

Ok.
jim-gainsborosteam

I live in the uphill part of Gainsborough, just off Whiteswood Lane (if you know it).
James

Ahh!

It is sad, Gainsborough now, isn't it? Nearly all the history and heritage seems to be forgotten!

When our mate got contract to knock Marshalls down and we went in and saw all the stuff on a pile for burning it was a sad sight! That's where my shares book was. Just going to be burnt. Makes you mad
James

Aye, I know where you mean.
Wallace

Loads of people seem to know each other now I considered joining the SAC, but I don't need to to drive rollers at Amberley
Em

insurance isnt the only reason to join, just think of the free rally entry! (ntet authorised events only tho)

it says what you get here

http://www.ntet.co.uk/sac/id27.htm

i didnt join till i was 16 and only then cuz someone got me membership for my birthday. but anyway for me its been worth being a memberr of.

Glad to have you join our forum, Jim!

Yes, welcome to the forum Jim!

I saw the best thing today for ages, it made me turn into a little kid and get all excited. There I was happily screwing in the new stays on the engine when all of a sudden this great steam train went hurling passed the yard. (Apparently it went through Gainsborough Central too, so some of you may have seen it also). The Green Arrow I think it was called.
Just thought I would share that with you all. lol.
James

Bugger! I would have loved to have seen that in Gainsborough!
Lewis

LNER class v2 the green arrow is i think
MTA

If it was the 'Green Arrow', it would have been No. 4771, in 'apple green', tender, and had the nameplates on the side of the smokebox Oh, and had LNER on the tender
jim-gainsborosteam

yes it did, and yes it was a great thing to see. very rare these days to see one on an ordinary line. With that and the moon my day has been full of excitement. lol.
James

Wish I could have seen it

Green Arrow appears over the whole country Jimbo! Just gotta go on a site, type in Green Arrow, and it'll come up with dates of what railtour it's going on, and where or which preserved line it's going to I travelled behind her on the Bluebell Railway before her intermediate overhaul and repaint
James

No I mean in Gainsborough
jim-gainsborosteam

What a shame mate, she went through Central Station just after dinner. I heard that she was meant to go through before christmas but was cancelled due to lack of engine drivers (or something along those lines) and so made an appearance today.
Its a rare thing to see nowdays, especially in Gainsborough and even more especially through Central. (those not from Gainsborough should know that Central only has trains on Saturdays, rubbish i know)
James

Aye, it is crappy ain't it
jim-gainsborosteam

I dont have any Mamods but I do have a coupel of Wilesco's, which I shall have to sort out some picture of. I havent run them for a while so it will give me an excuse lol.

Ive always considered Wilesco's to be better as they are far more representational of a real engine. (dont want to offend anynody but its my opinion)
James

Same here mate:

SPOKESMAN

Looks dman fine that M122 - will be on my 'to aquire' list!

sparky wrote:

I dont actually go to any of the SAC events (driving days etc) as I get enough time on the engines I work on so I dont see any point. All the same, Its a great club to be in and its a good thing that they do driving days as it gives everybody a chance doesnt it.

well I like to look after my things. These get a proper clean everytime im finished using them and then they go straight back in the box until next time. Dont want them to look scruffy.
