Hello

Hi i'm Pauliesteam (Paul)

I'm related to Mamodman, well i'm his brother of course. You will have already seen some of my work (Stephen Speilburg) on James' videos.

I recently saw the Mamod loco's running around my brothers track and decided I just HAD to buy one myself, more on that later anyway.

Hopefully i'll stick around for a while, maybe get more into this steam stuff and hopefully buy a couple more bits and pieces as time passes by.

Cheers guys, I look forward to hearing your comments on my new purchase
MTA

Hi Mamodman the 2nd, only joking Welcome Paul, MM, sorry, James told us of your purchase, quite a good one too, although you will need to rectify the bent cab, shouldnt be too hard I hope we hear more from you as time goes by, and also see you at the meet up in February with your brother.

Hi Paul, I've heard lots about you from MM and I love the Mamod trains just like you and I really like the train you bought aswell. I also have a Mamod train. So do you and your brother use the same computer then?
buzz

Hi hope you like it here and stick around

Yep although we're upgrading to wireless next week
MTA

When I had wireless installed, I thought I'd have to keep redoing it when the signal failed, it happens about once every two months, so not as bad as I thought!
Steely

Great. Has the loco arrived yet MM or Paul?
MTA

I think they do steels, as Paul's avatar has it in it!!!!
Pauliesteam

Thanks guys,

Just trying to work my way around these forums because I've not used them at all yet. Just had a job and a half sorting out my avatar top left.

Yes Steely I like the loco's and ideally I want to be able to run one at some point, i'll explain a bit more about the Princess of Wales which I have polished up this afternoon. To answer your other question I use a laptop next to my brother for my work.

I will indeed be at the meet with my brother to add some more man power, and i'll have to steal one of James' locos to crash too.

I'll have a good look around the forums a little later, hopefully pick up some tips!. I'll have to wrack some of your expert brains about my loco too.
Steely

Well for a starter you have the rarest loco on this forum Only 250 made.
MTA

Paul so you know, I may go a bit over the top with locos (as those on here will tell you, I work on the "bigger stuff") so know a bit about them.

And the rest MTA
MTA

well, I don't want to blow my own trumpet or anything During October Half Term, I'll be detailing my loco at last... More to come
Steely

Shame you don't know much about Mamods. Wrong forum really. (joking)
MTA

tis true about the Mamods. I joined a forum called national preservation index, they had about 10,000 members But I didn't feel "at home", as it was mostly gricer based.

Yes that's right. I was reading a little bit of that Mamod book earlier, and it turns out that it's the rarest one so i'm very happy. Although it is rare it does seem to have a problem which must have been spurred on by a moment of insanity to say the very least guys.

I would also like to get the blue one too as they look nice as a set in the picture of the Mamod book.

That sounds very good 'MTA' I know practically nothing about steam locomotives but it would be nice to read about some of them. Although for the moment i'm not going to throw myself in at the deep end, and stick to the Mammods.

Are you talking about the bent bit?
MTA

I'm leaving the paintwork as is MM, as its perfect. Will try and remove lining and MSS logo, and use the sticker machine at school to make some nivce ones I'm going to convert the back of the cab to a half cab, so it looks a bit more like a narrow gauge loco, paint the wheels green and a few other bits and bobs.

Look forward to hearing about it.

pictures every step of the way I may be tempted to do the lining myself with some masking tape... I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get off the MSS lining or not...

Maybe you should cut it as a "window" instead of cutting it in half otherwise how will the cab stay on? T cut should remove that MSS lining without damaging the paint under .

I Totally agree with customising locos! Makes them unique!
MTA

That thought did occur MM, I might add rivet detail as well Where can I purchase this thing you call "T-Cut"?

You don't know what T cut is? It's a really good metal polish like brasso, you can buy it from Halfords and shops like that.
MTA

I've heard of it, but don't know what it does or where to get it!
Steely

It's like brasso, but a bit more harsh and less liquid like. It's for cars really.
MTA

I've got to go into Halfords anyways soon, so will pick some up

I only wish that was the problem, once I find my way around here i'll get a topic up about the loco.
Mamodman123

T cut restores paintwork! IT removes a layer of paint when used, it polishes off the top layer. ITs about 3 quid! Its for cars really but if you have faded paintwork it brings it back to original shine

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum! Nice loco btw, I'm sure that whatever's wrong with it can be sorted. Loco trouble seems to run in the family!

Hello Paul, welcome to the Forum.
Pauliesteam

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! it seems like a nice little place to talk steam

It's very interesting to see so many people from different corners of the globe all collecting Mamods and other steam engines. Bowman is another of course

I look forward to more steam related chats in the near future
Steely

You're sounding like a steam boffin already Paul.

True I have learnt so much since I joined the old forums!
Pauliesteam

steely wrote:

I'm afraid not

I'm reading the Mamod book as fast as I can at night, mainly looking for the locomotive pages.

Now if you talked football, it would be a completly different story

Plenty of time to learn, collect, talk, run, repair

Edit:

Actually, I used to run my SE3 with my brother at the age of around 6 in the garden. My job was to fill the boiler with tap water and then watch. I never really caught on from there because it broke and got shoved under a bed. Sad really, but great childhood memories there!. Probably a reason to revist it so early in my life
Steve_S

That seems to be the pattern with so many steam people... they played with an engine as a child... followed by the none-steam years... then something sparks the interest again and it catches like wildfire... never lets go!
