HiHi,
my names Emily, im 19 and at Bishop Grosseteste uni in Lincoln doing heritage studies. Home is near Newark in Nottinghamshire so not too far from where i am now. I've grown up around full size steam, vintage tractors and stuff like that thanks to my dad, and wouldnt have it any other way. He offically gave me his mamods- traction engine and roller- for christmas when i was about 14. the following birthday i got the bits to go with them, workshop saw etc.
to be totally honest im more into full size steam. We look after a Robey traction and own a Robey portable as well at helping a friend do some major work to his roller. but i do still love my mamods and i realy miss all the stuff at home. keep meaning to bring my mamods back with me but never remember!
i saw this forum and thought it looked like fun, anyway thats a bit about me, if i'v forgotten anything or there is anything else you wana know just ask

Some nice kit there. You are very lucky to have the Marshall, they sell for silly money nowadays.
Does your S1 Marshall have the cartridge starter? I know some of the very first one's made did not have this feature.

yeah it has cartridge start, which is good as im a bit of a whimp and cant swing start it! but as cartridges are almost £2 a go i usually get dad to swing it for me! lol
when dad got it he was young and into ploughing matches, for which he had the standard ford and needed something to pull it as its on spade luggs. its low geared and they werent exactly in fashion at the time hence he could afford it! i love it, and come in very usefull at times as its fitted with a hesford winch.

Hi Emily and welcome to the forum!
It sounds like you have a great time with the full sized machinery. Lucky you. Lots of fun to be had with the small stuff too though! I hope you stick around... its always good to have new members and new ideas.
Late twenties is quite old? You make me feel like I came out of the Ark too...

well rather than looking at what happened in 'a period' we look at whats left behind and ho to deal with it today. so we touch on most things

As in trying to absorb and utilise historical features, and correcting previous mistakes?
If so, sounds interesting. A career with English Heritage perhaps?

maybe something like that, im still young and naive enough to think i can change the world so the possibilitys are endless!

It only takes one person to change the world.....for better or worse unfortunately, just look at George Bush. ..............

you see the aim of keeping my name short is simple.
all demoninations-yes even those from liverpool should be able to get it. (plus why think up a new name when i already answer to this one lol)
unfortunately even two letter words can be problematic for some

oh yes, my sentiments exactly - if you're gunna have a portable it has to be a 'Britannia' type. I would have one of those too.

I hate this idea of a new shopping centre in Marshalls. Hate it with a passion. The walls were bloody 6 foot thick in places! Why knock it down and build a crappy lean to? I say they should have restored it back into a museum!
Did you know about the huge overhead crane?

well i can remember it when it was in its original place towards the rear of the factory near the pattern shop. I was there when they took it down from its rails and I also had a look round it a few days later when it was in bits on the floor. I believe theyve restored it and are goin to make it into a gateway or something.
The original plan was to put a museum in there again but that went down the pan!!
|
James
|
Aye, it was just down the road at our mates who demolished Marshalls. Dad said if you put your hand on the pulley it would turn all freely by hand, the whole thing. Now they have washed it down to get covered in pigeon crap and seize up. They have no idea at all!
