TE1A_man

Hmm,

I was talking about thomas the tank engine, when it hit me. I could take a TE1A and put big grooves in the wheels, put in just the right spot to fit on mamod track. An inexpensive train, though a little diffrent, but it could drive on ground or track. Don't worry, i a mnot going to do this to my 180 dollar TE1A, maybe sometime in the future make a trashed out one and do this.

I've seen someone get a childs Thomas train, remove the wheels fit 'O' guage wheels and a small electric motor and turn a childs 4 pound toy into a working electric loco. But 'O' guage (Mamod track) is only 32mm between rails so would be too small for a TE1a I suspect

Mad idea Logan!!

At the show I go to in April, somone brought a TE1A that had been converted to run on rails, they fitted two axles underneath the firebox, with two gears mounted on the wheels on the LHS, and fitted a gear onto the flywheel, and ran a chain around the gears. The front steerable axle was replaced with a swivelling bogie as well

I have a picture of that, and one made from a MM2. Steamjim sent me them on MSN, I'll upload them in a bit.

Question is do these contraptions move!
steamyjim

i think it was on one of the yahoo groups phot ambulms

I think it would be great to make some sort of track that a TE1 (unmodified) could follow. Not sure how to do it yet though. I wasn't thinking along the lines of using train track, but using maybe raised wooden tracks that go on either the inside or outside of the front wheels. Problem would be fouling the back wheels.

and the little hub caps on the axle ends.

Now that would be an interesting project for someone - an Aveling and Porter style loco made from a TE1 and wheels from a Hornbt Rocket. Just a thought

something like the blue circle or sir vincent?
Mamodman123

I saw a Te1a adapted to run on tracks in a little steam fair in Nuneaton! ITs possible that it might show up at STIA! KEep a lookout
