Hobbies SE1

just been loking at steely's impressive little beauty & thought i'd post this weekends polish up. Alot of similarites & using up of old parts on both models.

The quality of the machining makes this a very quiet runner with very little vibration

A beautiful machine MJ, it's an engine that makes collecting worth while . You have polished it up nicely too!. The character is oozing from it

Still interesting to see, the colours clearly differ from mine! and the decal is in Mamod colours . Must be a late one, I think... maybe around the same time as the "SC" range? . Both colours are clearly lighter!

The burner should be 2 wick with a screw cap, but that does the job nicely I suppose At the end of the days, IT'S A HOBBIES

Great pics mj!

They certainly are quality engines, just look at the thickness of the cylinder wall. Build quality of that calibre is now sadly long gone.

Sadly gone Griffin but NEVER forgotten

mm,
interesting you should metion the colour of the bases, as i took the following pics yesterday, in normal daylight so that the colours would
look normal

The base bottom left is the se1 base that i cleaned up this weekend. Bottom right pic looks like the early standard mamod colour, i think it's been drilled for se2 by the position of firebox holes. Top pic is the next clean up job (an unfired & uncompleted se2 that needs pipe & union nuts to complete) & that i think is the normal deeper cherry red of hobbies.
The bottom of the bases have more uniform colour & one of them looks to have been repainted in the mamod red on the top only at the factory.

Absolutely stunning models there mj. Are you coming to STIA in February?
Mamodman123

Do they belong to engines all those bases? How many Hobbies engines have you got?

From what i gather (might be wrong) you have a base and no engine? Although an engine has been on it at some point as it has the firebox marks! The one thats been repainted, has that got a hobbies transfer on it?

Whats the base just poking out in the corner?

The SE2 is the original Hobbies colour! and the lighter ones are definately mamod colours, not sure why they have hobbies transfers though

That's a shame, I would love to see your collection of Hobbies. Like MM said how many have you actually got?

Yes, the brighter red base has no engine & the hobbies decal. Those roving eyes reveal an se3 base & boiler with no engine parts (paint is gone in one corner & part of the decal). Ultimately it would be nice to have the full set se's 1,2,3 & 4 (se4 may be just a dream) Anybody got any spares for the se3?
that pretty much all of the hobbies bits n pieces.
Mamodman123

Ah an SE3 and Boiler, I don't know anyone that has spares I only know of 2 complete engines Its a shame really, do you know why its only a base and a boiler?

You have quite a lot of hobbies stuff then The tools are the rare stuff

Wow, you are definately well equipped. I also have the Se3 but I don't have any spares for it.

Unfortunatley i don't think the se3 was ever completed, as the boiler is also unfired & the paint underneath where the countersunk holes for the engine are, is unmarked.
Mamodman123

ITs a shame, all you can do is sit back and wait for something to turn up you never know
oldstuff

Great photos, mj, great little engine!
