Homemade countershaft?

Has anyone made their own countershaft?
I'm just looking for ideas...
tmuir

I've replaced missing pulleys on my lineshaft with meccano pulleys.
They are not as good quality as the Wilesco or Mamod ones but still work OK.
You could very easily make a lineshaft using Meccano rods and different sized meccano Pulleys.
If you don't have any meccano or exacto parts there is always heaps on ebay and pullets are pretty cheap.

Yes!  I get all my pullets from ebay too.  We eat cheap.  Not fresh,
but cheap.

Reid, you are a crazy man     I guess that's why you fit in so well with the rest of us.

Me thinks someone needs a spill checker

I'm no worse off than a slip eccentric, errr, a slipped eccentric.

The comedy business did not want me.  So naturally I sank to the next level:

technical humour.    Technically, it's humour

"What is the scale of Mamod steam toys?"

I answer, "Chiefly, lime."

LOL, My browser has an inbuilt spell checker but its doesn't work if you accentually spell another word.
My excuse is some how I've got the flue in the middle of summer here and not long before I wrote that post I decided to take some night time flue medicine as I had no day time stuff left.

I forgot to say early.
Welcome to the forum Earthdog.

Welcome to the forum Earthdog.
Oy, I enjoy this Tony,
I mean, not that you got the flu!

I'm a homonym-dyslexic too.

A bad case of the flue:

We hope you don't have that strain of the bug.
They might have to demolish you

or  put up a retaining wall.

double posting err
Mister Occlusion

hehe...

Now I have to go look up wtf a pullet is....

Funny seeing this topic here, because just a few hours ago, as I was whisked away from my labours for an enforced bit of cogitation, I pondered about lineshafts.  I seem to posses a plethora of pulleys, both of Jensen and Wilesco.

A little 3/16 steel rod.  A crude upright of band iron riveted to a couple angle pieces.  A couple 3/16-anna-bit holes, a bit of wood, and one butt-ugly overhead countershaft results.  Get a couple bevel gears from Small Parts, and you've got a right angle one.. Or even better pick up a universal joint or two from http://www.mackproductsrc.com/index.htm for a more sophisticated look.

Aren't Pullets a chicken or something?

Good luck getting over the flu Tony. I saw the forecast for your area tomorrow, 39 degs C. Not a good mix with the flu

Better pay a visit to Dr Frigate

Anyway earthdog, welcome to the forum

As others have said, any Meccano will do the trick for making a countershaft, and the best thing with meccano is you can make it all to suit your needs.

Just one thing though. Mamod Lineshaft Pulley's will fit meccano axles, however Mamod engine Pulley's in general will NOT fit meccano (bigger shaft diam).

If you can afford it, Meccano make a Flywheel, which is quite heavy.

The sellers on ebay, Meccanonman and Bitsorpieces sell some handy stuff

Good luck
MooseMan

Could use a lineshaft to roast a pullet over some esbit.

Pullet = Poulet = Chicken

Interestingly, Pulletje is Amsterdam slang for duckling or gosling.

And WTF happened to this thread???
steamyjim

I made a tiny lineshaft from 2 mamod pillars and there linshaft wheel and pulleys mounted on a base. Havent finished the base yet though

Ill get a pic of it today-if i remember
Cranko

Hi and welcome to the forum from New zealand . I have made a lineshaft . I used a couple of brackets from the recycler for the pillars and pulleys from the interior of a computer. all worked rather well. If i can find it I will post a picture
