Homemade Hero Engine

mc_mc's little hero engine gave me some ideas, so I thought I'd have a try
at making one. Nice, fun project you can knock out in less than a day.
It needs an improved support structure, but the coat hanger wire and meccano
brackets will do for now. And I'm using catering gel(sterno) to fire it until I make a burner.

It is definately a fast runner, and the steam jetting out was great.

Wow that really goes.
I thought it was about to take off and wizz around the room.

Nicely done.

That's great Chuck. Good to see you back here with your handywork

Jeez Chuck how I've missed your inventive genius.

What a magic idea and a great video.

Very clever Chuck...AND it works well!!!  Love the brackets, necessity is the mother of invention!
MooseMan

Ladies and gentlemen - Chuck is most definitely back! Hurray!

... excellent job, Chuck!

Thanks! I've replaced both upper and lower supports and it's more stable now.
But the lower end cap developed a leak and I'll have to patch it up.

An interesting, but unforseen, drawback to this spindle design is that as it runs
it gets lighter in weight, causing the spindles to bite into the bearings more
and adding friction!

One thing that I didn't mention before Chuck is it amazes me how quickly you can make things.
It took me nearly 3 weeks to make all those parts for my Renown and you knocked out that hero in a couple of days.

I need to learn how to make parts faster if I'm going to supply them to people.

What helped me out with the hero is I didn't have to make the end caps!
I had gotten some off ebay a few months back. The plug's made out of a
terminal nut and the bush is made from a lamp part called a reducer.

So, a few shortcuts sped things up...
