How full is the boiler, if it is overfilled that is a potential problem.
is the regulator open enough?
and I would mess with the reverser Lever things have to line up and they seem to be a little touchy on Mamods some need to be all the way back and others need to be someplace else in the range of travel if lines up you should see a small amount of steam escaping between the cylinder and the Steam chest.
Wallace

I agree with John. Check how full the boiler is.

Judging by the steam and water buildup around the steam pipe on boiler, it might be overfull and the engine is priming.

Even though you only filled it to overflow plug, with a union steam pipe connection, the steam pipe can vary on how far it goes into the boiler, and it may be collecting water.

So try dropping the water level a bit

Less water and a bit more patience me thinks
Jakebob

is it leaking around the engine, it may need a bit of resoldering as well
Mister Occlusion

pop the cylinder away from the port face a bit when it's under pressure (wear gloves) and see if steam blows out.  If it does then maybe your exhaust line is gummed up.

Nice little SE1

Be even nicer once it's running.
steamyman

try the whistle- if boiler is overfull- the whistle just shoots water out and doesn't trill.
Cranko

If that is an exhaust throttle control i see that could well be the problem
MooseMan

Maybe this is useful?

At the end of the video it goes in close on the steam take off union on the top of the boiler. I can see steam! I think there is a leakage from the union. Is it tight? is the soldering of the boiler/union joint sound?
mc_mc

I had a similar leak at the steam pipe / boiler junction on my SE2.

To fix it I did the following:

Unscrew the nut from the steam pipe going into the boiler,  lift the pipe out of the boiler,  slide an o-ring onto the pipe, wrap a little ptfe tape round the top of the boiler's steam pipe thread (you only need a little and it doesn't show), push the pipe back in and then screw the nut up again.

The o ring compresses under the nut and the ptfe seals the threads.  I didn't get a drop of water or a wisp of steam escaping after doing that.
