how easy is it to change the look of a loco

Hi its me again sorry!!
but how easy is it to change the look of a loco ?
I will shortly have my 3rd mamod and would like if  possible  to change the ebay sl1 loco.. it needs some work doing to it so I thought Id like to change the look of it while I'm at it.. how easy is it to replace the side's and cab ?
l want to make it all black with my own name diamond lady as a name plate
as a woman with no engineering skills or soldering skills could i do it?
OR do i need to pass it over to the  daughter's boyfriend who has done metal work at school ?

It all depends on what you want to do.

If you just want to repaint them and can use a hand drill, pop rivet gun and screw driver you can pull it apart yourself.
If you really want to customise it speak to alan2525 as he makes custome parts for locos.

Have a look at his website for what he has 'off the shelf'

The Mamod locos can be a bit fiddly putting back together but they are fairly simple really and there isn't too much you can go wrong with them

This thread here shows one of mine stripped own for a repaint and upgrades.

I supply a few upgrade parts to change the look of the mamod loco,

There's some photos of paul c's converted mamod here:

The cab sheet and half cab back are a straight swap for the mamod or mss sheetwork.

Rob Bennett also upgraded one of his Mamod's with my cab parts:

The loco's can be a little fiddly to dissasemble as you need to drill some rivets out to take the loco apart.

Hi Alan

I have seen your parts but I just wanted to know how easy it would be to do!
its one thing buying the parts its another knowing what to do with them!
I have seriously onsidered buying a name plate - "Diamond Lady"
but noticed  there are ones with screw holes and ones without and wasnt sure which I would need?
plus as I have never done anything like it before is it just a case of unscrewing  parts and re-screwing replacments on or is it pop riviting?
Id like to do a SANTA EXPRESS for my son for christmas - and notice  you do a sign that fits on the chimney stack..and Id like to do a name plate "SCOTT"
but as I have just bought a new train its on the next months payday list- as my dog has had emergency surgery and a big vets bill and I know I'm going to be going back to the vets this week and next -anything I want to do comes lower down the list
But its also my sons birthday early October and I'm going to buy him a new train and it would be good for it to have his name on it
