How slow can it go?
thats about as slow as I can get any of my engines going

When I get ours working Properly MM I will see If we can match yours

Engine needs to well run in I think keep trying though

My goodness, that is slow...funny to see it go that slow when normally it runs at warp speed!!!

Sure is Rog! I think this is the only toy steam engine I will ever wear out one day . The regulator does its job well

looks good MM123- i like seeing steamers running slowly

Nice one MM, you got her going slow there.
The gauntlet has now been thrown down, will have to see if I can better that

Not bad for a simple mamod though

If it had the 101 flywheel then it would go super slow
someone needs to try it with an M122 Steve? Moosey (he's got two, won't mind blowing one up)

Not bad at all MM.
It's Jimbo's D22 I am bothered about, that will take some beating.

Well whatever goes the slowest it'll be a slide valve

I know it's not a toy, but those Stuart beams go real slooooow.
If Rog enters his, we can all go home

Just cause I like you guys, I won't be entering my Stuart Beam in a slow mo contest.
Funny thing about that engine...you can slow it most by regulating the exhaust side as opposed to the input side. Not sure why, but seems much more controllable that way...maybe something about how it's made

I have slight more chance...
I find Mamods the opposite, I can get the ones with the steam regulator slower than the exhaust

I would like to see a video Rog of it running as slow as possible. I find slow running engines rather soothing.

Hi Chris,
Well, G-J and Steamgranny also asked for another, longer beam video, so I will see what I can do in the next few days and film it going as slow as possible.
Watch this space!

I can get my wilesco D-10 going slower than that. I will take a video in a few days.

Aint that a slide valve engine? or is it just normal like the SE3's cylinders?
Would be good to see a video! although I fear i'm going to get beaten
|
rangerssteamtoys
|
yeah it is a slide valve engine and I think I will win, I can get her going pretty slow I just neet to rig up a throttle. It is a single cylinder engine but it runs slow
|

You'll easy beat the SE3 then, if it's slide valve
Enter it against the D22 and see if you can beat that one
|
James
|
Beat the D22?? Never in a million years
|
Dampfzauberer
|
Hi James,
I'm really sorry to inform you that the million years are past now
Just give me 5 minutes to make the video, the i will show you what I mean!
|
Lewis
|
my sp6 is up in the top on this one
not the slowest but can go pretty slow
|
James
|
Aye but your engine won't be a toy engine, it will be a model engine
|
Lewis

You mean my engine??
Just wait a second, vid is uploading^^
And it WILL be a toy steam engine....
|
James
|
and no turning it over by hand etc etc
|
Dampfzauberer
|
Of course not...
But i had to provide the "steam" in another way (takes to long to steam it up)...
I made the pressure by pumping ait into the boiler by a small hand-pump (you'll see it on the video)
Hope this is "fair"
PS. under steam it runs the same, maybe even slower!....
|
James
|
Hmmmmmm. That ain't a steam engine is it if it's running on air?
Yep, I'm trying to defend my title very desperately
|
Dampfzauberer
|
So, here it comes....
If you want to, i can fire it up, but that would have to wait till tomorow....
It's my Schoenner Locomobile...think this is also just a toy...a big one (10cm boiler dia.) but not boilt like a "model"
Sorry that there is no sound, something's wrong with my pc...

James

Hi mate, please have a look at my latest post in General Discussion. You can enter for Germany, and you are bound to win that because you are our only German member
|
Dampfzauberer
|
E.g. the crosshead guidance is a kake..just looks like one, but doesn't touch the bar below
Ps. just look at the piston, not at the flywheel's speed..my useless webcam makes ist look like it turns very fast
|
Chris
|
Looking good.
Steam it up for us tomorrow. Suspect you will get a smoother run with the continuous steam pressure rather than the air pump.
|
Dampfzauberer
|
Ha, well in that case you're right..that means i also could speed up to 200 rpm and still win( for germany)
|
James
|
Aye, but you wouldn't get slowest in the world then
|
Dampfzauberer
|
Thats right! But i will try to make it as slow as possible.....
It it okay that, when i stem it up, i disconnect the governor? Like in the vid?
Without it it runs smoother...
|
James
|
Aye mate, that's alright
|
Dampfzauberer
|
Fine! Will fire it up tomorow, and take the video with a better cam (to hear that nice sound )
I also got a 1890's Schoenner with 13cm(!) Iron-Flywheel....
But the sight glas is leaky so this one is "dismissed"
|
rangerssteamtoys
|
it is nice and steady not like james' d-22
|
Mamodman123
|
Great video!
Piston certainly looks slow!
|
Dampfzauberer
|
Yeah, it really IS slow.....it looks only because of my cam and that "gyroscope-effect" why the flywheel seems to go so fast....
|
Mamodman123

| Dampfzauberer wrote: | | Yeah, it really IS slow.....it looks only because of my cam and that "gyroscope-effect" why the flywheel seems to go so fast.... |
You can't quite capture the 'real time' speed with a camera!
My SE3 looks slower in real life than it does on the video
You need a cam which is at least 30 frames per second (speed of the eye)
