HowdyHowdy all. Name's Rob, and I live in about the furthest northern section of Arizona that you can imagine (about 10 miles south of Utah). I've been fascinated with steam engines/locomotives since I was a young'un, but have never gotten into it, just because it seemed so inaccessible (expensive, difficult, etc.). Until recently - I bought a Mamod TE1A on eBay for what appears to be a decent price (<$100), and it'll hopefully be arriving here within the next week. I'm going to need all the help I can get!
What else? I'm a wildlife biologist and in my free time I hike, backpack, and work on restoring my 1948 Farmall Cub. Since starting that project I've become a lot more mechanically minded and handy! I look forward to being part of this forum - looks like a great bunch of folks.

Welcome aboard from Indiana, you will find that there is a great bunch of people here and you can get all the help you want.
That sounds like a good price for a TE, I hope you can post about it when it arrives.

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum from Indiana. I was out in your country this past May, moved my son to Phoenix to start a job. Dang that place is hot!!!
You came to the right spot for any needed steam help, any question is fair game. These are basically pretty simple devices, but each is unique in some way, and there is always someone who has faced pretty much each problem a new guy with a new prize will face.
Again, welcome!!
cheers,
Roger

from Minnesota!
I'd love to see a picture of your Cub in the off topic area (I'm sure it would be okay with James ). I've just started restoring a 1940 H Farmall this past week.

I just found your website and it's great to see the Cub's restoration.

Nice to see another tractor guy on here! I've got a few more pics I need to upload (and then update) to my website - but my camera battery is dead! I've got the rear structurally all ready to put back together, plus the floor pan. Depending on how much room is open next week in my buddy's shop, I'll either put the rear end together or clean up the seat, battery box, dash, and maybe start on the front axle area.

Thanks all for the welcome! Looking forward to being part of this here (and picking some brains while I'm at it)!

I did have an early cub (very low serial number) with a lot of garden attatchments, but it was sold 2 or 3 years ago.
Edit: Here it is:
(I do still have that old wheelchair though. )

Hi Rob,
Went to your website to see the tractor since my father had one for his five acre truck farm that he had when he retired.
Same year, He had the cultivators, fertilizer spreader, and plow ( I think it was a single blake).
I think you'll like the forum-great bunch of guys
oops-how could I forget steamgranny

Nice looking rig there Nick!
Yeah bigal, I've got a plow, cultivators, planter, sickle-bar mower, two harrows, and a belt-pulley drive attachment for the PTO. Can't wait to get it going! I figure this TE1A will be a nice way to "blow off steam" if the going gets tough on the Cub and I need to take a step back. Plus I think it'll look great with my Cub and model Cub at tractor shows.

Welcome to the forums from a grey and rainy Essex UK!
Hope you enjoy your TE1 when it comes, they are remarkably simple devices, but I'm sure you'll soon get the steam bug!
Good to see your Farmall restoration too!

Hello Rob,
Welcome from Auckland New Zealand.
I' ve just purchased a TE1 and waiting for it to arrive. Farmall Cubs are fantastic every time I see one I think I need a bit more room in the garage before I buy one.................one day.

Welcome to the forum mate!
I'm into tractors too. Currently working with me dad (well, he's the manager and I'm in the workshop) mending New Holland tractors and combines aswell as Manitous and owt else they can throw at us!!
We've got a few tractors ourselves:
Case 785xl
Fordson Standard
Fordson Diesel Major
Marshall 702
Kubota
I'm also on with a Nuffield and an Allis Chalmers!

Here's a few pics for you! No pics of the Standard though, got to pick it up ASAP. Saved it from scrap. She's seized solid ans about knackered, but Dad's uncle used to drive it years and years ago. He used to plough with it, and get off and walk next to the tractor while it drove itself
Here's some pics:
Crapbota:
Marshall (made in my home town of Gainsborough)
Fordson with demo NH
Demo Deutz combine that broke down LOL!!
Demo NH C9080 last year
Fordson
Massey 20 baler
Me hay turning (last year) and baling (this year) with the Case
Neighbour's JCB Telehandler we used for building the new barn!
Aveling Barford diesel roller I'm helping to restore and then rally
