I hate advances in Domestic technology! What a grand title for a moan about our central heating system! It has packed up for the third time since we moved here just over 5 years ago. It broke during the summer of 2004 and when they fixed it it was permanently on high and it took an age to correct it. Needless to say we never had those plumbers back. In 2006 it had to be fixed again and now it has packed up (hopefully not altogether) and it is bloody freezing. Three layers and a coat on and I'm still freezing What was wrong with a good old coal fire in the living room? I'd be warm and toasty right now seeing as my room is next to the chimney

My Heat Pump quit two years ago and I have been heating with wood ever since. Wood heat is so comfortable, but it is dry and the farther areas of the house get a bit chilly when it is really Cold out. It was below freezing here this morning.

You want one of these lad!!
The brass on the stove is a bit dull... needs polishing again!
The lamp were just posing there, it don't live there, it follows me around whatever room I'm in!!
It looks all mucky in the pic, it ain't, it's the flash
It gets so hot we have to open the windows at times, which defeats the object
The mantle piece is made from a 300 year old piece of Marshalls timber!

Or a proper open fire place, don't need central heating in our house.

We used to have one of them. The stove is miles better, but don't have the charm of an open fire.
With a stove you have the heat from the fire AND the metal

We've a stove in the kitchen also, that provides our hot water. Your right, it has no where near the charm of an open fire.

My Grandma still has a huge log fire in her living room. She still had lead electrical wiring up until recently She also had her Rayburn replaced with a modern one which looks like a traditional one from the outside but when you open one of the doors it reveals a control panel

No, it's similar to yours, and it has pipes running through the back to heat the water.
