I may need help for a UK pick up--auction cancelled.

I am waiting for a address - the seller cannot find a box and is unwilling to do much as gfar as effort.

So this is an SOS- I will post an address soon and see if the bloke lives near anybody.... He hinted that he is about 112 miles from Lincolnshire... So James I shant ask you to drive that much..

More details soon.

He is wanting to cancle - and that may be my lot-- some things are just not to be....

Plus if this is too big to ship to me safely I may offer to give up the boat to a member - but he is saying he will offer it to the runner up biddrr
pauly

I could pick it up if he is close to whitby or middlesbrough.
MooseMan

Happy to help if he's anywhere near me.
willsy

it prob isnt but if its in south somerset, west dorset or east devon i am more than happy to help
nichb

Im in Essex / NE London borders

havnt been here long but if I can    I will
Minor1PJG

Down in sunny Surrey

I hope you can sort this out
James

We'll travel to pick it up at cost
Minor1PJG

It would be a shame if the cost of collection matched the value of the item

Only joking.  Let us know if we can help at all.

That could literally be anywhere.....
Titan

I'll help if I can - moving about a bit over the next few weeks so might be able to pick it up if I pass by.

Mo without the street address, if you could state where in the 112 radius of Lincolnshire it is you might find a helping hand sooner. I know people other than Steam Enthusiasts that I would trust for such a task too so it is possible that there are even more options available for you.

A note to UK members, in the US a 112 drive still isnt out of the question as things are a bit spread out here and people have to drive distances on a regular basis. I drive over 20 miles to go to the Grocery and used to drive 60 miles each way to go to work each day. I know that it is a lot bigger thing to drive 112 miles for you guys. It isnt always understood. I assume that Australia is similar to the US where people have to drive more.

Yup you're right John! 112 miles isn't a "short" drive over here. The motorways are sometimes jammed, sometimes you have to use A roads and B roads too.

Even a Town name and county would be good

You have to forgive me MM, in the US they treat the roads with salt in the winter to get rid of ice and people do drive distances. Fiestas were marketed here, but they just didnt hold up very well at all. They were a little better than a Yugo though.
Atticman

MMs one has been bathed in waxoyl, the last of the Fiestas

Mind the Lancia Betas and Alfasuds were the worst for rust, bit before MMs time.  Probably none left in the UK, real bad rust after a couple of years

Yup Wazoyl is whats holding it together The salt is a problem over here on the roads, always good to give it a good rinse through after the winter and it shouldn't be a problem.

It moves:

As James dubbed it "A Fod advert 20 years too late"

Ok,
here is this "Cyril's location:

"my location is in north east england,25 miles south of newcastle upon tyne,i live in a small town,SHILDON,COUNTY DURHAM,I WILL WAIT FOR YOUR REPLYS, REGARDS CYRIL"

Does that work for anybody?

I also will be happy to pay for courtesy fuel and ....... ..here is the 2nd part- --------would the "picker upper" be willing to box this 46" long boat up and post it to me?
I will pay in advance for the postage and courtesy..
MooseMan

Nuts......that's me out.
Stilldrillin

Hmmmm. That`s a bit too far north for me!

Graham-Jilly

and back?
mc_mc

That's 208 miles and 3 hrs 40 minute journey for me (one way!),  so I'm afraid I'm not offering either.

I bet when you find someone to fetch it,  the seller will then be awkward about when they can come.

I've had problems with eBayer's in the past,  when I've won a bargain on their auction, I'm sure they've tried to make things difficult in the hope that I'll forget it and give up.
johnreid

I emailed a friend who lives near the Dales of Yorkshire, have not heard back from him yet but if he can do it, he would be trustworthy. I do not know where he lives in relation to the Dales, I think the Northeastern portion isnt too far from there. No promises, but I am trying to help.
Titan

That counts me out too!

Shildon - sounds familiar - is that the National Railway Museum's northern outpost?
willsy

just checked route planner for a laugh and its 307.6 miles from me about 5 hour 40 min one way

middlesbrough is less than an hours drive from newcastle so I will ask me dad if he could help

dont get your hopes up though
johnreid

My friend is on Holiday in Spain, no help from him. I hope someone can help as that just looks like way too nice a boat to miss out on.
James

Do not fear... I might be able to get a box big enough, and send it to him!

Guess a coffin would do Jimbo

Explain that to the Customs officials.

He is a Twit of the year winner James- he does NOT want to box it up-- he just wants it picked up... - no fears here- this may not be meant to be my boat-- ahhh Karma..
mogogear

I'll give this a bit longer and then I will tell him to cancel the auction and encourage him to be upfront next time that he is only willing to have pickup... %$##@% and tell tell prospective bidders where he generaly lives ...........

Also - than you some much to all that replied and gave consideration... I do not expect anyone to drive far in these times...
MooseMan

That's a real pity.....

We should start operation Let's Get Mo a Bloody Big Boat.

Have you considered a build-from-scratch, or a Krick kit? I do have the build instructions for the Victoria here, and although they're daunting, it doesn't look impossible....
mogogear

Moose- all good cheer mate... but worries here... I am old enough to know that if you have to push a situation too much - it is not right.

I am also old enough to know i do not have the wearwithall to do a big kit..

I can tinker , and modify and do some light engineering... I would have to move to England and live in John Moore's shop for a couple of years just to gain the patience and skills for scratch building on this scale

And thats not happening...I just keep shopping-- the stars will line up one day..

So I will give this till tomorrow,, then it is on to the next hunt...of course I am always hunting--

You guys all keep an eye out for Kusuchi - he is also looking for about the same as I - 36" or so long - no power plant0 classic style launch

Thanks again for the comradery!

Fiestas are great little cars! I know a guy who had one from new and it went on forever! Cheap to maintain, parts are cheap and easy on the fuel so you get slightly less scr*w*d by the government every time you fill up at the pumps.

I still can't help asking though...did you fit a couple of brass pulleys onto the rear axle and run a long belt onto an SE1 under the bonnet?
johnreid

I think a Minor might fit easier
Minor1PJG

My first car was a Fiesta (950cc Popular Plus).

I used to dream of having a full one litre engine one day

A fine vehicle for a young man

johnreid wrote:

True, it might need a Muscle Car style power buldge otherwise!

What was the address you wanted the boat picked up from? I'll be driving around a fair bit in the next couple of weeks and would be happy to pick it up, box it up and get it shipped over if it's on my route!

Thanks

As a last post on this topic- I contacted the seller and told him to cancel the auction- no bad comments from me and him to reciprocate.

Thank you to all members that even considered assistance - a very nice group of world people you all are.

If there is ever any assistance that I can provide to any member here in the states - consider me at the top of your list to ask fro help!!

Cheers to the team!!
johnreid

So sad to hear that as it looked to be such a nice one.
Stilldrillin

Sorry to hear that Mo.

It`s a pity you had to cancel.........

Hope there`s another one along soon.......
Les Marsh

Sorry to hear that Mo , but something else will come up soon.
