I've saved a booth at the pub

Well the sheds are locked and we've all been kicked out but I've saved a booth at the pub for us.
This board will be left unlocked for the next couple of days so people catching up with the posts can still comment on them.

Consider this your time at the pub with all the other members having a pint and chatting about what they did / saw.

Don't worry about getting back to your digs guys, Mary's driving.

No probs with the current exchange rates and the price we get ripped off for beers in Australia for the cost of 2 pints of Stella at my local pub (That I no longer drink at because its too expensive) I can buy 5 pints in UK.
AzRob

I'll take a Boddingtons, please.

Wonderful weekend, and well done all. Three cheers to the forum for putting this on as well.

Well worth a Single Malt, a Laphroig perhaps?

Congrats on a great weekend to all those who had a hand in organising it, and to everyone who took time to display a table.

It was my first STWWW having been away last year and I had a cracking good time,

so big thanks everyone concerned!

Ohhh, Barry and I are going to get along well...I will buy a 16yr Lagavulin after you after the Laphroig!!

A good single Malt would be good, or a good Kentucky Bourbon.
In my self unemployed days, I had a customer who sent me a Case of Chivas Regal Gold each Christmas, a blend, but soooo smooth, Wonder where it all went?

I thought it was supposed to work the other way round - the supplier sends his best customers the case of booze - or was it a bribe in this case
johnreid

I did good work, never overcharged and always did all I could to be of assistance if they needed anything, They were not a small concern and I believe they thought that if they treated me nicely, I would not over charge them.

Lagavulin is THE favourite but it is so expensive over here. I will gladly accept one from you when we raise a glass!
Have you heard of the Laphriog Quarter Cask? Double cask matured, non chill filtered and 48%!!! it's beautiful but does need perhaps a couple of teaspoons of water to release those oils as opposed to my usual 3 or 4 drips! Slainte!

Just noticed that you are in Portland Oregon - we called in their earlier this year on our cruise from SF to Alaska - chance missed!

Ahh, too bad we missed Barry.... It is not Scotland  here but I do have my own pot still and have been making my own single malt scotch for about 6 years...normally cut to about 95 proof....definitely needs 4 drops of water... I peat smoke my own malted barley too...My stuff gets very close to Laphoig IMHO..The door is always open here.....

Hmmmm, all my hobbies involve fire and boilers somehow? I am a big espresso fan as well...

Cheers to all- and I would never turn down a Guinness either!!

...stands right next to a bottle of Glenmorangie on my shelf. What a fine malt (which? either of them...)!!!
When I raise my glass it will be to all the excellent contributions and steam afficionados - it was a great (first) STWWW for me. Cheers, nasdarowje, zum Wohle...
And after the whiskies I will gladly continue this discussion on Guinness (which IS good for you).  So make it two pints of this "wine of the country" (Joyce, right, ) for me. Or - what about a bottle of excellent "Grauburgunder"...?
So good to meet you...
Cheers

Ahh Black Sheep - Had a couple of pints when I visited the North York Moors railway, now everyone sells it, but fond memories of a fantastic tour around the sheds by 'Mike' a volunteer at the railway and a peak at the 'Sir Nigel Gresley' mid restoration, and a good clamber around the loco's!

If this pub is still open a Pint of Fullers ESB would go down well!

Hi Steve,

I'm interested in how you did the soldering.  At that scale, it's more like spot soldering.   When ever I've tried to solder something that small, I always end up melting an existing soldered join.  Most frustrating.

Pete
Steve_S

Pete, the bottom of the boiler and the engine frame are silver soldered so I didn't have to worry about them falling apart while I soft soldered the other parts, as the temperature  required is much lower. The small bit of brass that holds the crank pin is just a tight fit on the end of the axle so its not soldered. Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of that step so I didn't mention it in the thread.
