IndianaRog...an introduction 6 months late!!!

It was brought to my attention that I never quite got around to filling out a letter of introduction of sorts after joining this forum in Dec. '06...thought I did...sorry!!!

I will hereby make amends and tell you more about me than you can probably stand...in bullet point fashion, a holdover from my working years (been retired now 3 years, mid '50's and in my former working years I worked in the pharmaceutical industry)
- I live in Indiana, USA (4 hours drive so. of Chicago for reference)
- I love Indiana Jones movies so in a corny moment I dubbed myself "IndianaRog" for online use and my website...the "Temple of Steam"
- Married, 3 grown kids, 4 dogs, 4 tortoises and I live in a lovely wooded spot overlooking a small lake...been here over 20 years
- Got my first steam toy at age 10...a Fleischmann which I still have, got back into the hobby about 5 years ago...eBay is my primary source, as out here in corn country, toy steam engines are non-existent.
- I'm half English...mum was a war bride conned into coming to America by a fast talking US Navyman after WWII
- I met my first toy steam collector about 3 years ago...a guy with the name "Mooseman"!!! We have not actually met, but became best of friends via email...I've got a few Bowmans now and Moose has a few Jensens
- I collect Jensens, Empires, Karsten Gintschels, Bowman, Mamods (of late) and a host of other one offs...love to restore them, buy, sell, trade...keep honing the collection and building shelves!!
- Met my first real collector in person 18 mo. ago driving to Kentucky to find him...then just recently drove to Detroit to meet up with forum members Oldstuff and Sandman...5 years collecting and only 3 guys met in person...envious of UK steam get togethers!
- Lastly, I agreed to become a moderator on the forum in April '07...been a fascinating side of the forum...but glad I did

That's about it...condolences if you have actually read this far

cheers,
Rog

Really good to have you here Rog!

It's been a pleasure talking to you about steam in general
James

Rog you're a legend.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
Griffin

Welcome to the Forum Rog

A nice introduction there.

It's always a pleasure to read your posts.
Sandman

Enjoyed the intro Rog.

We'll have to meet up again.

You're even more of a legend face to face.

MTA

Pharmaceutical industry ay? Sounds interesting!

Graham-Jilly

Welcome Rog
now I wonder if we have done an intro ??

Chris

Suppose I should write one of these things at some point...

I never bothered as I thought I might buy one engine, and then not come here very often... seems I was wrong about that!
Griffin

Come to think about it I too never did a proper introduction.

Combined with the old forum I have only been on here for over a year. Might be a little late now
SillyBilly

Howdy Partner!
Hope you enjoy your stay!

I may write one on these things one day while being bored.
IndianaRog

OK...if I could bare my soul 6 months after joining, sounds like a few others could do the same. What the heck, it's fun to read and we can then find your weak spots!!!

As for my former life in the pharmaceutical industry before blessed retirement...I was a pill pusher (drug salesman), then worked the advertising and promotional side, worked the manufacturing side that made the pills (Speke near Liverpool was a frequent visit in the '80's and 90's) and finally got sent to purgatory...regulatory division working with the US FDA...if ever there was a reason to hang up your hat and retire, that FDA experience did it for me!!!

OK, come on...the rest of you guys (and gals) who can't remember if they introduced themselves...lets hear your story
Manxman

I don't feel I can say welcome, or hello or anything. I feel we already know each other so well. What a strange 6 months this has been. This is a great forum and it is nearly our birthday. I agree that it seems a good idea to get to know everyone a little bit more and I've enjoyed your story. Thanks.
mc_mc

Rog, thanks for all the friendly advice and support that you've given me and other members over the past six months and for sharing your expertise and collection with us. Long may it continue!
Wallace

Great to read that Rog

Sandman

Jeez Rog.

Reading that made me feel like I was back in Detroit.

Magic stuff mate.
oldstuff

I'd been to your website a few times and read of your affiliation with Mooseman.
So, when you first joined the forum, I felt something special was happening.
I was right about that!

I hope you know how glad we all are that your here. Congenial, diplomatic, innovative,
cheerful and so much more...James understates in calling you a legend, mate.
It was quite a privilege actually meeting you a few weeks ago!

Thanks Rog, for who you are and all you do!
IndianaRog

Geez Chuck,

What can I say ??? Though I can restore...YOU can create...big difference and I admire the creativity you bring to the hobby with your engine designs built up from and in some case OF scrap!!!

If you ever get down the Indianapolis way, a stop at the Temple of Steam is a must do...got enough pieces for a banner steam up.

cheers buddy,
Rog
MooseMan

Rog and I have been talking for some three years now....in that time we have gone from two guys who share an interest to a point where I think of him as the older brother I never had!

Pleasure and a privilege knowing you Rog!
IndianaRog

Oh my gosh...I'm blushing. Yup, Odilon and I are brothers...I'm the older, shorter, rounder one...he's the younger, taller, slender one.

Reminds me of that movie where Danny De'Vito and Arnold Shwartzenager are cast as "Twins". Just to look at us you would never guess we were brothers!!!

Seriously...it has been a pleasure getting to know Odilon as a fellow collector, family man and friend...we email more than my real brother and I do!!!

It's kind of neat to have friends around the world...this forum is a special place, like a "cyberpub" where we all share our hobby and more. I am definitely glad Odilon pointed me this way!!!

cheers,
Rog
MooseMan

....and I expect that that is the last time anyone will ever call me slender!
Thanks Rog - as the forum creed goes: you're a legend!
