Info needed on SR1

I have just pulled apart my bolt together SR1 (what a pain that was!!) and have found were the boiler bolts to the firebox there are nuts on the inside of the firebox aswell as the outside of the firebox.
Just want to know if this is how it should be or if it should just have nuts on the outside of the firebox???

Are there four nuts in total...
Meaning two on the inside inbetween the boiler and the firebox and then two more on the outside of the firebox to sercure the boiler to the firebox.... or is there only suppose to be only two on the outside to sercure the boiler to the firebox???

Ive pulled it apart to give it a good clean and found the two nuts on the inside... hmmmm,  im curious cause my TE1 only has nuts on the outside but..... it's not a N&B one..

not sure, someone else may be able to answer......

I just saw 2 on outside.

Me, all the N&B SR1's have the nuts holding the boiler in place.  As to you question of having two nuts sandwiched between the boiler and firebox, I don't know if this was the norm.

I also have a N&B SR1, but have never had it in bits.

On my SR1 when youlook where the filler plug is there is a gap between the back of the boiler and the firebox. On my TE1 (without the nuts inside) there is no gap bewteen the back of the boiler and the firebox....

Just had a look at my SR1, the boiler is "hard up" against the firebox, so by the looks of things there are no nuts in there.

Thanks for the info....

its interesting...

Would anyone be able to post a picture of the front roller assembly for an early bolt together SR1?..
So that i can copy it for mine because mine just has a screw up it to hold it on...

Hi I hope this helps

By the way your boiler should be flush against firebox - with no inside nuts.

SR1 -1961 the first ever SR1's

On the 1961s the front locking nut is steel nut, the same as ones that are used either side of the front axle to hold it in place

SR1 –1962 - 1963

On 1962 – 1963s the front locking is small knurled nut above spring with circular brass knurled nut above to allow for a steering rod to be attached.

SR1 - 1963 – 1965

On the 1963 onwards the front locking is small knurled nut above spring with hexagonal brass nut above, and long screw thread is now fixed to forks not bolted.

are the wheels held on by nuts or those clips that i have trouble getting off.
is my SR1 a 61 model, it is listed in the restration section under "My SR1 restration"

Do those nuts come with a replacement Steering Rod or are they considered part of the Mobile?

No you’re right all SR1's come with those difficult to get off clips. The nuts I mean are above and bellow long screw thread, and clamp it to the forks

John, the tapered brass steering rod connecting bush comes with the steering rod.  If I remember rightly, I think the latest new versions are no longer tapered.
