Introducing Devin

I met Devin a few weeks ago via his two youtube instructional videos.

This video is turns out with a surprise conclusion (surprise for Devin)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnOX7QMUnA4

I've sent him a link to this thread.
I hope he may choose to join with us here.
He's excellent in presenting clear pictures with good narration.
And he always keeps a fire extinguisher at hand.
TRAPPERKEEPER

I've seen his video of the d14 before, seems like he would be a great addition to the forum.   Lucky he made it out scot-free from that burner incident
Reid

He has a great sense of humour in the way he quick-cut from the "it's running good" scene, and the comes the aftermath.

I lol for that every time.   Good show, Devin!

You know it was that video that kept me away from homemade burners for a Long long time (okay, maybe a month and a half).

Since then I've learned 2 important things: Make it stable so it doesn't fall out fall over or otherwise spill, and Don't overfill them.

Follow those 2 rules and you can't go far wrong.

I could also add: silver solder everything that sits inside the firebox, and Isolate the fuel reservoir from heat as much as possible, also.
mc_mc

Looks like the extinguisher made more of a mess than the alcohol fire did.

I find they generally burn out themselves pretty quickly,  just don't run your engine on anything combustible / valuable.      I keep a plant water mister nearby and that goes a good job of quenching errant flames with just a few squirts, but I rarely have to use it.

Admins:  Devin registered here, or tried to do so.
He writes to me that he has not received account activation.

Could one of you please look at the records to see if his registration request exists?

I don't know offhand what username he chose.
I'll write him now to ask about that.

Thanks!
Mister Occlusion

Well, if he used {_ Britney Spears Gimme M, then I think he might get flagged as a spammer

I see some of those names that show up as "newest member" and wonder where some peoples heads are.
That is why membership needs to be approved, but I also noticed that my approval took days. I wonder how many a day are requesting approval. I Mod a small Yahoo Group and it never ceases to amaze me the number of spammers out there.

Wallace as co-admin, is our main "spamminator"  Shooting

He does a yeomans job taking out the spammer trash so to speak, despite it being an endless and growing task.  As our forum grows it unfortunately attracts more spammers in the process.

Although the oddball, spammer names does appear as "newest member" that is just an MFF function of someone applying for membership.  There is then a verification effort by Wallace or James in his stead, before a name gets activated to be able to post.  After that all mods pay close attention to the newer members for a period of time, looking for spammers in disquise, trolls or other problems.

We get several spammers a day signing up and hence you see the weird names appear as "newest member"...but our total member count might be 275 "members" one day and 273 the next after separating the wheat from the chaff.  Be assured that the likes of:

- Britney Spears Gimme M
- Cigarettes, cheap cigar

Won't be part of our forum community, just background noise we have to squelch.

cheers,
Rog
