Is it just me, or...........is there a worrying tendency in the UK news to blame all the problems in society on immigrant workers?
Housing, lack of jobs, crime, NHS underfunding......
As an "immigrant worker" (and faithful payer of NI and income tax) myself it's making me really angry.....and not a little worried either.

Well I used to think the Poles and that coming over here were all tits, and they should be exported like.
BUT
In the summer holidays I were tatie grading with a load of wood men (poles  ) and I found them to be actually decent blokes! Ok ok ok, most of them couldn't speak a word of English, BUT they worked, and worked, and worked! They do the work the British can't be arsed to do. So I say the people who are moaning, get of their fat lazy arses and do the work themselves! If they did, there would be no Polish here!

Immigrant workers can only come over here to work because the opportunity exists. If we worked hard and did the jobs ourselves then there wouldn't be the opportunity.
It is the same the world over. People will move to where they can take advantage of an opportunity.
I see a lot of eastern europeans on building sites. Why? Because the brits won't do the work. Same goes for the farms, many brits won't do the hard slog required.
It is one world, given the chance people will move to where the work exists and the quality of life is good. You can't blame people for that.

No offence or owt, but you will NEVER find ANY farm that employs asians or black people or owt like that. Farmers are probably the most racist and prejudice people you will find anywhere!!
People from Europe, the like poles and that, they don't mind, as long as they work....

The United States, a country of Immigrants, is going crazy with Immigrant hatred.
I honestly can say that my Ancestors Immigrated from Scotland and Ireland ( although over 300 years ago ) so I think that I would be a hypocrite if I was to hate Immigrants. If not for Immigration I would probably be herding sheep or something now.

I delayed responding to this thread in hopes it would die and I'd not post to it at all. I can't let you get away with you statement that the US is being consumed by "immigrant hatred". We both know it ain't so.... or at least I hope so.
The US is waking up to the fact that there are about 12 million ...read this carefully... ILLEGAL immigrants inside our borders. The US is crazy alright.... Crazy for providing them free health care, free welfare, free education and a host of benefits the rest of us can't even apply for. Meanwhile they send the untaxed money they make back home and completely out of the local economy that gives them all the freebies.
Legal immigrants have been easily accepted and are usually quite productive and hard working. We've no hated for legal immigrants... but we do have a problem with those illegals who break our laws and rub our noses in it. Heck.. I'm eating at a Palestinian restaurant tonight, the minister who married us was from Zaire and I'd have missed a great treat had I not met the old retired British Sargent Major or the Jewish couple who live across the street.
It's still a melting pot here, but the illegals keep trying to steal the bloody pot.

Well said mate.
Illegals are also a problem here for the same reasons.
The hard won rights that our fathers and grandfathers fought for, are being squandered on people who have no contribution to make to our society, but would milk it dry if they could.
European rights legislation means that we can't even deport foreign rapists and murderers as it would infringe their rights.
What about the rights of ordinary people whose taxes are used to fund these people.????

If you live in a country and happily make your living in a country, raise your family in that country, and take advantage of the social benefits of living in that country, then you ought to be doing your very best to become a proper citizen of that country.

I hate to say it, but I used to work as an electrician for some time and the problem is when an employer decides that he no longer wants to pay a living wage and hires the Illegal Immigrant for sub-minimum wage, however at that point it is the greedy employer not the Immigrant. If they had to compete for the same wage, the Illegals would not be so prevalent. Recently there was an Immigration Raid on a big Construction Company and they hauled off hundreds of workers, they were working as Carpenters, Plumbers, Electricians, and Equipment Operators. They were supposedly doing a decent job, BUT were being paid less than minimum wage. It was not them, but the guy paying so little for a hours work, his profits show that the price did not go down when he saved so much on wages, that is what is wrong.
I have friends and former employees that are desperate for work as Electricians and Carpenters, but can not keep a roof over their heads if they worked for $5 an hour with no overtime pay. It is wrong that the Illegals are working for those low wages, but not the Immigrants fault, they are only wanting a job. If the locals were all working and the employers had to pay the same wage no matter who it is, the Illegals would not have all of the jobs available to them. It isnt that they only do jobs that Citizens will not do, it is that they will work for wages that Citizens can not survive on.
Agreed though, Illegal is just that Illegal, however I do not see anything being done about it that actually works, especially when some people are profiting so from them.

Over here at my we have mexicans that build most of the building and do all the hard work.sadly they dont do it right, they just want to make a paycheck. There used to be a time where it was all whites doing the work and getting it done right and getting payed good money but now its just sad.

Cedge, I couldn't have said it better myself.
We are the only family on our street that mows our own lawn. Everyone else has crews of illegals do it, which is bad for teens like me who can't get a decent job with all the tax-free competition. 
There are several known spots around where you can drive your pickup over to, and hire as many illegals as you can and drive off.

From where I sit there are Immigrants and there are Illegal Aliens, two separate groups. However I will agree that most of the hate and bashing is caused by the illegals.

True, and I kind of regret starting this thread now.....it's just that I've recently had to cope with the first example of "immigrant hatred" directed against my person, and it's left me totally shocked.

Yes and unfortunately our current government is fanning behaviour like that as they have recently brought in a test everyone must take now if they want citisenship in Australia.
This 'test' apparently tests people on a number of issues of Australian history and 'values'.
Personally I'm outraged that our government has done this as I can tell you our prime ministers 'values' are very different to mine and don't agree with a test to check that people all think the same as the current government.
Every person that enters Australia agrees to abide by our laws and that is good enough for me and I can tell you the history questions in the test only mention the good points and don't ask any question about the bad things we did to the original inhabitants of this country.
Ok OK enough ranting, I'll be quiet now as I know this topic can get people really fired up................

I originally saw it as being about Immigrants, IMHO illegals are not immigrants they are illegals. I apologize if any of my statements were insulting, I still think it is the fault of the greedy that the illegals come up in such numbers and work for nothing.

I'm really sorry to hear that Moose.
The thread has indeed shifted focus.
Illegals and immigrants should not be confused.
Our immigrant community provides a great service to our society, and indeed ,in many areas ,we would struggle for the skills needed to fill very important needs.
This is sometimes ignored by those who would like to create disharmony.
I'm really sorry to have gone off topic as well.
