Most of my engines look like that when I get them.
That would be an easy restore, Magpie.
Grab it if it's cheap.

There's probably a nice engine hiding under all that grime and tarnish.

worst case is it may need a new whistle bush or the bush resoldering.
Bushes can be bought off ebay for a couple of pounds.

Go for it if you can get it for a good price, looks to be a pretty nice engine under that!
If you get to a point where you get stuck, there are plenty of people here to give you advice.

Nice early Se2a, easy resto, base looks in good nick and its got a burner- the whistle is one of the old style ones-
pricewise, anything under £30 is a good deal I would think

Damn, I bid on this one this morning. I'll quit, and sorry for pushing the price up! I know it's all fair in love and ebay, but I feel bad bidding against people from the forum!
Do make sure you post pictures though, I want to see how she ends up!

Yep, never mind.
Personally, when I first got into the hobby, I was amazed at how many of these engines sell on ebay. I asumed they stopped making them years ago

theres always another time | i think you had a narrow escape. you find on here that members have found a really good engine hiding under tarnish and grime... restoration cost??? one tub of elbow grease. but this engine is badly solder scored and by the time you remove it you wont have any boiler left. as a rough steamer or spare parts its a beauty.
