looks like a good restoration candidate to me! go for it!
Bugsy

Most of my engines look like that when I get them.
That would be an easy restore, Magpie.
Grab it if it's cheap.

There's probably a nice engine hiding under all that grime and tarnish.
tmuir

worst case is it may need a new whistle bush or the bush resoldering.
Bushes can be bought off ebay for a couple of pounds.

Burnmafingers

Go for it if you can get it for a good price, looks to be a pretty nice engine under that!
If you get to a point where you get stuck, there are plenty of people here to give you advice.
Les

It's a Mamod and they do not seem to die, go for it.
Wallace

That'll be a good project to work on
Atticman

Nice early Se2a, easy resto, base looks in good nick and its got a burner- the whistle is one of the old style ones-

pricewise, anything under £30 is a good deal I would think
verithingeoff

Go for it, they are an easy resto---
Sandman

I've seen a lot worse than that rise from the grave on this forum.

That will come up fine with a bit of work and patience.

Damn, I bid on this one this morning. I'll quit, and sorry for pushing the price up! I know it's all fair in love and ebay, but I feel bad bidding against people from the forum!

Do make sure you post pictures though, I want to see how she ends up!
madeinenglang

did you get it ?
magpie38

no I did not get it, not a problem really, you win some you lose some.

theres always another time
Burnmafingers

Yep, never mind.
Personally, when I first got into the hobby, I was amazed at how many of these engines sell on ebay. I asumed they stopped making them years ago

i think you had a narrow escape. you find on here that members have found a really good engine hiding under tarnish and grime... restoration cost??? one tub of elbow grease. but this engine is badly solder scored and by the time you remove it you wont have any boiler left. as a rough steamer or spare parts its a beauty.

I would think it was an easy resto that- looks far more like calcium and crud from a leaking washer

Theres always another day though
TE1DRIVER

I think it would have shined up a treat look at that SE2 madeinenglang is restoring it looks like new
Steve_S

That one will restore very nicely and as has been said you'll get plenty of help here if you need it!! Very few wrecks are beyond saving.
RocDoc

Yes deffo worth having a go at restoring it.  It's an important part of our hobby bringing old engines back to life again.

Thats a really easy project, check out mine from ebay it was toasted to the point of cremation!! . Ive posted it in the restorations forum group under heading (mamod wreck to restoration.) That was a ebay disaster but it was soon sorted.
