It's all very sad!Times like this you feel like crying! (Not cos I got kicked in the knackers THREE times today )
Right, Marshalls got knocked down... Tescos built.
Marshalls knocked down... Marshalls Yard built.
Marshalls got knocked down... 102 houses being built
Wefco (used to be Marshalls) - make boilers in the old Marshall building... gone into administation - will be being knocked down shortly
Roses (where the chocolate is named after!!)... demolished long ago
Baines motorbikes and cars... demolished (a little bit still stands)
THEN
Yesterday I were saying to dad, how I would LOVE a job in Edlingtons. They are a company who have a big old Victorian factory, and make rollers, graders etc etc.
He said he knows the bloke who owns it (It's one of the last companies in Britain to be owned by the same family from the start - 188?). He said the floor is all cobbled, there is all archways and all the stuff I love. He said he would ask to get me a look around.
THEN
He says to me today... the work is destined to be demolished. It's the open day on Saturday, where if you want to see if before it is flattened, this is your last chance. The company is still in business, just moving place like.
To add insult to injury, they are knocking down this beautiful building, to build a...
ROUNDABOUT
It's apsoloutely sickening!
Saturday morning, I'm off for a look around, then I'm off to MArshalls.
Urgh....

As Joni Mitchell says, "They paved paradise And put up a parking lot", and they all call it progress.

I blame Thatcher for most of the industrial demise in Great Britain
|
steamyjim

To be honest id rather live 150 years ago when Britain was the greatest country, but sadly shall never happen again

As opposed to Steeplejacking or Sheep Farming, I think James will end up in the Antique business, well he might keep a few old sheep behind the Antique Shop.
|
James
|
LMAO!
I just have a passion for our industrial past, and I can't believe how ruthless people are being by just wiping it out!!
I say it again, I'll do whatever it takes to keep Gainsborough's heritage alive! If I have to open a museum when I'm older I will!
People need to know that once upon a time Gainsborough was a bloody super power, not just a run down crap whole full of chavs and young mothers!

So true James, so true
We have a rich industrial past but people are embarrassed of it. Not to mention all of the environmetalists saying OOOOH THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION SHOULD NEVER OF HAPPENED!!
Utter rubbish i say if we didnt have the industrial revolution we wouldn't have anything we have now.
Its something we as a nation did for the world we transformed the world and we should be proud of it. Even if it has risen our global temperature by a few degrees!!!!!!
|
James

I hate the words "global warming" and "pollution". It's a load of shite! It's a load of gay boys with nowt better to do than file their nails and moan about people that worked.

If I use the bus to get to work (like on a stormy, snowy day as today), it's hard to hear a German word.
Ta, that's the way it is.

... oh, my dear friend! It's like with Britain and the US, Australia, Britain AND the US, France and Quebec, Canada and Britain and ...
The only thing that seperates Germany and Austria is the language.
We all speak German, though, ... kind of. And love/hate each other ... depending on whose football team wins.
