Looks very nice! I like the rivet detail on the smokebox too, my one just has the regular mamod part.
Have you run your loco yet?
I just got some extra bits for my one today - it's the dome and a cover for the water filler, bought them from Rob Bennet:
http://www.7-8ths.info/busybody/brassknobs.html
It does help to dress it up a little bit, PPS used to sell a dome for the Janet but don't seem to sell them anymore even though they are still listed on their site.

Great engine and layout. I love the scattering of debris around the mine entrance - gives a very realistic look to the whole set up

that is very nice. I wonder how many Janes were fitted with that smokebox? Most I've seen have been fitted with mamod-esque ones. I much prefer the shape of these ones with the rivets.
Great loco, looks ace sat next to Millie.

IP Eng actually cast their own smoke boxes for the Jane, it is the PPS Janet that uses the standard Mamod smoke box, and of course the early ones looked very like a Jane (later ones have a modified boiler).
A nice looking loco pauly. You've got some polishing to do on the brass fittings.
The IP Jane is the right size for SM32, in my opinion the Roundhouse fleet are all too large.

Pauly, that is a proper locomotive. Looks great with that riveted section and your mine layout looks superb.

but I have seen Jane's with the Mamod smokebox, so not all the IP ones could have had it.

I have to agree, the Roundhouse locos are beautifully engineered but they are a little bit over sized.

As has come up on another Posting, it is possible for an owner to replace the superior IP Eng smoke box casting by a Mamod one. And of course it could be possible that IP Eng did use the Mamod smoke box when they were closing the Jane production line down.
We do not have any PPS Janet owners, but they originally looked the same as a Jane, including the same green colour. The current ones are now fitted with a different boiler which has 2 additional take offs on the boiler so that a pressure gauge & whistle can be fitted.
Problem was that IP Eng & PPS have collaborated on a lot of these Mamod modifications, plus the Jane & Janet. So it is difficult to confirm which model you are looking at without closely checking the smoke box, boilers, wheels, etc.
A classic example was they both actually used the same photo of a modified Mamod to sell their Mamod modification range. That has now disappeared from the IP Eng website following the Dream Steam buy out, but is still here on the PPS website - http://www.pps-steam-models.co.uk/mmods.htm scroll down to the bottom.

the reason I said not all of them could have had it was because Tag Gorton's Jane, "Steaming Boot" was an early Jane, and had the Mamod smokebox from new (it was an IP Jane too). I have also seen a pic of another IP Jane with the Mamod smokebox.

Not seen Tag Gorton's books or locos.
The original prototype was fitted with a lot of Mamod bits, and in fact Jane was originally made for Brandbright by IP Eng.
So perhaps these early Brandbright Jane's were fitted with the Mamod smoke box, and the early IP Jane's as well. Not sure when it became the IP Jane.
I've read somewhere that IP Eng cast their own smoke boxes but cannot find it tonight. Certainly mine is the IP Eng cast one with the earlier wheels, and the one MTA got at Merstham has the IP cast smoke box with the later wheels.

I dont think so I think my jane is a brandbright jane because it came with some oil and other bits and pieces all labelled brandbright

Possible, but of course Brandbright still sell a lot of these items, but not the Jane anymore.
Unfortunately I've failed to find the article I read that talked about the IP Eng cast smoke boxes, so no further forward with dates.

just thought Id post an update on Jane
she is now run in and a reliable runner and has had no derailments or crashes
she mainly works quarry freight
I dont run her with the dome because it kept falling to 1 side and getting in the way
