Jensen #25Last month I won this engine on eBay.com, well a week or so ago, it arrived in a very well packed box.
It dates from around the 50’s, and Personally I think it is one of the nicest looking engines in the Jensen line, a true classic.
Here are a few pics, and a couple of videos.
Here's a video of the engine free running
This is a video of the engine hooked up to Generator of the #55

Wow. What can I say Grif.
What a fantastic piece of kit.
Not a mark on it and runs beautifully as well.
I'm seriously going to have to add one of these to my collection.
I'm really inpresssed with that.
Well done mate. Great buy.

I can only echo what Sandy said, a seriously brilliant engine.

Thanks Sandy and John.
Sandy, I fully recommend getting one, the build quality of these old engines is second to none.
They are deceptivly powerful too, put it this way, it is not far behind the #55 for performance. I may not have the torque of the bigger engine, but the RPM's it puts out are unreal.

Gorgeous Steven,
One of Jensen's finest engines and in first class condition. I think the combination of Stephenson's reversing linkage and robust engine construction makes this my favorite Jensen.
I can sense a distilled water shortage in the neighborhood!!!
It's found a good home
cheers,
Rog

Thanks Roger, it's had a few runs tonight
It's much better on water than the 55, that thing just guzzles the stuff
What suprises me the most though, you can turn the power off, and it will still run for a good 3 minutes or so afterwards.
Maybe it is because the blanket heater stores the heat better than the immersion rod type.

Steven,
My guess is the 55 is a water guzzler because it has TWO of the same size cylinders as on the 25, though I don't think they are cycling near as fast as the 25. This calls for a scientific study sometime...you know, milliliters in the boiler, residual water at the end of a timed run.
The 25 seems to be a very easy running engine, well broken in...not surprised it goes 3 min after the power is turned off. Yup, my favorite Jensen!!!
have fun,
Rog

Thats why I have the tea towel under the base, it helps stop it going walkabout
Don't think it is as fast as an ocilator, but it's very fast for a slide valve.
Yep, yours truly on the throttle , havn't guite got the hang of that one get. A little movement goes a long way with that one.

Fantastic Griffin - I love the #25.
Now....will you be adding a #5 as well??
Here's a little trick - you can power a small steam engine (SEL, MM2, something like that) with just the exhaust from the #25....just run a bit of tubing between the engines. Bit of video here (with a #5 in this case):

Yes hopefully one day . Mooseman, I blame you for giving me the Jensen bug. I knew little about them until you posted the link to their website on here late last year. That in turn opened up a right Pandora's box , so yes it's your fault
Seriously though, I am glad I found out about these engines, and I have enjoyed every minute of learning about them, and starting to collect them.
A big thank you Moosey.

Steven,
Delightful...that might be the fastest, smoothest transitioning from forward to reverse Jensen 25 I have ever seen, and I have seen a number.
Not sure why, maybe well broken in...every part knows it's job and does it without the least hesitation. The 25 is dwarfed by the 55, but they look like they belong together. The 25 was made by Mr. Jensen Sr. more than 50 years ago...the 55 made by Mr. Jensen Jr. in 2007. How many collectors can say that!!
cheers,
Rog

LOL... James!! You are becoming known by the ladies of the UK as a right barbarian. Enjoy it!! That future wife will soon enough set you on the path to domestication and maybe even being paper trained.
Griffin...
Welcome to the Jensen steam family. You've certainly joined the ranks of Jensen collectors in a premium way. With that upcoming acquisition, you'll be the envy of even many of the hard core US collectors. The Jensen 25 has a long history for being among the most desired and reliable engines of the line. Yours is certainly in enviably pristine condition. I've got a nice old model 5 with a riveted boiler if you happen to get the fever again....LOL Next thing we know, you'll be drooling all over some ancient Jensen model 10...(grin)

Steve, I have seen both those engines on your website, and I confess I have already been drooling over the #10, it must be the advanced stage of Jensenitis that is causing this
I would love that engine for my collection, but I fear I would be homeless if the Missus were to find out I had purchased the engine
