Jensen #65This was my only STIA purchase and it arrived today, it is up to Jensen's usual standards and i got Forest to repaint it like my other engines.
I'm very pleased to have three Jensen engines in my collection now and i just need the #85 to complete my set of the dry fuel models.
Engine detail.
I hope to get a video up soon.

As usual, Forest does a nice job with the re-paints on the firebox...wish Jensen sold them that way in the first place, but it's good you have that option locally.
Nice photos too!

This is my jealous face.
Really nice engine there. That is the model I most covet. I bet it runs really well too!

That is my first model engine when I was a boy. Oh, the good old days: a 10 year old a box of matches, pressurized boiling water , pack of esbit and watch the engine dance around the floor! LOL

Congratulations, Philip! The 65 is a great engine. Not just one of Jensen's best, one of the best all around.
They never seem to quit, just run and run, and make a lot of power, too.

I like the black paint, much more sensible - even my original copper 75#, is starting to look a little ratty.

Hey, something I just noticed on Philip's engine; The piston rod yoke, valve pin, governor pulley and safety
valve are not nickel plated on this one. All those items used to be plated. Is this an export practice for Jensen,
or are they making some finish changes in general?
Rog, Gil, (....Cedge?), anyone know about this?

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Dean, i spoke to Cedge a while back regarding the safety valves and they were running short and couldn't wait the three weeks for them to be plated as they had orders to fill. I'm guessing the same thing has happened with the rod yoke, although the one on my #75 is nickel plated. I believe the brass pins and the pulley on new engines have always been bare brass and not plated but i'm not 100% sure.

I have a 75, it looks the same but with reversing gear. I note that the firebox of this model has the tab at the bottom folded in and hidden.
Is this part of the repaint mod? or does the 65 have a different base?
It has always annoyed me more than the colour and was probably a compromise to speed assembly.
I like the way your example has a much cleaner look.

The 65 and 75 have completely different boilers, fireboxes, and bases, so that's probably what you are seeing there.

As well as trying the #65 with Peter's new generator i also hooked it up to my #15 generator to see how it did:
Fitted with the #131 bulb (i managed to blow this one not long after i took the photo )
Fitted with the standard #14 bulb.

Some more mods!My #65 has a bit more bling thanks to two talented machinists on here:
Dean's replacement Governor balls.
Dean's adapter for the PMR whistle.
Pulley made by Demon Industries, originally it was going to fit on my PMR Ericsson but that has been sent back to Forest, happily it wasn't wasted as it fits Jensen engines too.

Geoff sure makes a nice looking sheave! It looks great, Philip. Gives a number of speed and accessory options, too.

You sent the PMR back to Forest classics? what was wrong with it Philip?

Not quite sure Kenneth, i'm going to give Phil a ring next week to see if he has had a look at it. He has agreed to swap it for the Peanut Rider instead as it is a design that should be more reliable.

Finally got round to getting one of Bruce's (St Paul Steam) fantastic pressure gauge adapters and i've since fitted it to my #65 which is fully blinged out now.
