Jensen Turbine Kickin' "A" and takin' Names

There have been a few questions floating about concerning the power of the new Jensen Turbines and I've been really really careful not to overstate their capabilities. However, Crabfu has taken things in hand and he's left no doubt that the Jensen Model 95 turbine is in a class all its own. He was worried it would stall out when challenged with obstacles. I think Those doubts are now a thing of the past.

Have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLxrbjbYdWQ

He'll be exhibiting this new tank creation at a national robotics and Inventors show called Maker's Faire this weekend and I'm thrilled to see it will be there kickin arse and taking names....LOL

wow! That is awsome! That boiler is really putting out alot of steam too. Once again crabfu has been the first to do something pretty cool to hear the turbine change its pitch a little bit as the load changes!

Wow that little turbine is really screaming its lungs out, thats fantastic.

I'm guessing the boiler he had it connected to was running at a higher pressure than a standard Jensen boiler but I loved that.
Makes me want to get a turbine engine now.

In order to qualify as a toy boiler, manfacturers have to maintain a pressure rating of 1 bar or less (15 psi). If the boiler surpasses that rating a whole new set of regulations come into effect. Crabfu is operating at a bit higher pressure but surprisingly, not as high as I would have expected him to require for the performance he's getting.

I'm amazed at his results, especially after the delicate balancing act I went through to make it happy running at 15 PSI. That is one steam hungry little machine.

Now ,that turbine would really peeve my sister off. she hates my steam engines.

i reckon it's(the turbine)really though.
Wallace

Wow, that is fantastic.

Love the noise of the turbine

Previous to that I had only seen a Wilesco running a turbine.

So the drive off that came from the turbine spinning?

I would have never thought that a turbine for toy/model steam would generate enough torque to run anything, but that was amazing.

Great stuff

Whatever he's done to that, it certainly worked
Chris

Anyone know how fast these turbines run?

I guess he got the power and torque through some rather major gearing down.

Certainly impressive, would like to see one in steam for real.

Do they get through water quickly?
James

It's all steam driven turbines around where I live! God knows how many power stations Or "chemistry sets" as our Fred used to call them
Griffin

That guy's creative ability is amazing.

Those Turbines win hands down on sheer entertainment alone.

The noise they make when they "trottle up" is spot on.

Chris, I've got one of those turbines factory built into Jensen's Model 95G. It does scream, but perhaps not as fast or high pitched as Crabfu's tank creation as I think he has the PSI bumped up a bit, not a lot more than factory, but he has more leeway given it's an experimental piece vs. "toy" as CEDGE has noted earlier.

Although the 95G doesn't reach quite the rpms in Crabfu's video, I would bet 10,000 rpms would not be unreasonable. I don't find it consumes excessive water, but never really paid attention to that aspect, was more mesmorized just watching and listening to the darn thing. Always reminds me of a jet engine spooling up. You can see another video of this turbine on my website under the Jensen tab on left of home page...just scroll down to the 95G and click the YouTube video. www.indianarog.com

Thanks Rog.

Certainly impressive things. Think I still like pistons and cylinders, but wouldn't say no to a turbine.

Impressive sound.
