Jensen Twin-25 Marine

I've been sitting on this one for awhile, as anyone who has good Ebay memory knows.

No excuses, other than a lack of time and ambition to do a vid.

Anyway, this is 2 Jensen 25 engines reconfigured as a vertical marine power plant.  Unless I was mislead by the conversation surrounding the auction, it was built by our own Cedge (though I would like confirmation).

I lit upon the idea of screwing it down to a pair of lead ingots for a temporary base.  This gave it incredible stability and got me out of having to do anything with wood right now.

It's being powered by a Jensen 2.5" electric boiler (designed, of course, for a single M25 engine).  The highest speed is at the start of the video.  After that I enjoyed the sound of it idling too much and dialed down the variac to some 90volts.

Enjoy

I bet a 3" boiler with an immersion heater would keep up with it, That is a cool adaptation.

I didn't want to push it too hard in any case, since it's a bit tight and was initially spitting grey goo from the exhaust.

I shot a good glob of steam oil into the inlet every few minutes and ran a couple boilers through it at a pretty sedate pace and it seems to be running in.  Those are oiler holes on top of the journals too, and I kept those well up.

Got a second video to upload soon of a different engine

Clever adaptation by Cedge or whoever came up with it.  Runs quite solidly bolted to the lead blocks

Great concept , cool engine .
It must be a buzz to own a one off unique engine .
Nice vid too .
Les

Very nice indeed, do you have any plans to put it in a boat at all??
Sandman

OOOooh that is nice and runs a treat.

It would be a shame not to put that one in a boat mate.

Future project????
Mark-One

Ya, I do like concept models
Even better if they incorporate Jensen bits

I don't know... I've never considered a boat project.

Would have to be a pretty big one.  This unit is quite tall, and would also require a substantial boiler (or a more efficient one)  I've got my twin-70 too, though it's non-reverse.

We'll see

I believe it may have come from Canada and made by the same fellow that made my non-Jensen turbine on a Jensen boilered plant.

It indeed came via the twyfel fellow.

It originally came to my attention in this post, which is where I surmised a connection to Cedge.

Unless the cryptic message was in reference to the model 80 picture that was linked in.  That was Steve's engine, I think. *shrug*

I don't particularly care.  I'd just like to put credit where it is due.
igy569

That is really clever!  Seems to work well indeed!

I photographed that model 80 engine in a boat at the home of the man who developed the #51.
Cedge did a great job graphically by lifting the engine from the boat and placing it on a plinth
for display in the Jensen Museum and Archives. Tom Jensen Sr built the Model #80 in a tiny quantity
back around 1984 plus or minus a bit. Cedge is really good with his image work as you can tell by
looking at this picture and then the one from the website. Cedge did come to own one
sometime after the picture was made.

Gil

Here is one of the pictures I provided him.

Mark-One

Ah, I see!

Great photo work indeed.

good job!

I can't take credit for this particular engine, although it is quite similar to a 3D concept image I did a number of years ago.... long  before actually becoming an official part of the Steam team. If memory serves, the only person who ever saw that image was the former sales manager.

I think someone has falsely used my name as a selling tool, something really I try to discourage. Best advice.... if my name is invoked as the origin of an engine, contact me  for verification before accepting it as gospel.  There are a few pieces in circulation that I had a hand in bringing about, but those are few and for the most part, rather well known and easily identified.

Gil...
Thanks for setting the record straight on the model 80 image. That was a bit of Photoshop that would have been virtually impossible without your photos. No one knew what the little engine even looked like until you photographed Randy's. My own model 80 is now in the collection of a premier Jensen collector where it is doted on like a favored child.

Mark...
Give me a shout by phone, when you have a chance.

Thanks for clearing it up, Steve.  The seller did not drop your name.  I just got confused by the discussion in the ebay thread here.

I would have bid to win regardless, as it's a neat little piece.  Certainly not up to your standards, though

I can ring you today, probably.  Still deciding whether I'm sick enough to stay home from work or not, though I expect sheer bloodymindedness will win out and I'll go.
