I also got one of those PM Research flame lickers.
It's like the one that Rog has.

Gil, it looks like you found one hell of a deal.
Do you want to sell one?

They are two nice looking engines, well done.

Is the black one missing the heater? Or is the cord just pulled out?

A steal of a deal for sure. Are you going to fix and flip or are they going to be residents in the Office O Steam?

If you decide to sell them, remember, I'll buy one.

An excellent price on two fine machines

Just a question Gil.
At our STIA, we often get a chance to purchase engines at well below the price we would pay on ebay.
Do you find the same at the steam venues you attend??

I have given the Jensens an initial cleaning.
The black firebox piece
has the power cord relocated to the side and there is an extra hole added to the
chimney stand above the original. Perhaps they were going to try having a switch
and power on lamp in the 2 holes not presently in use?

They do look nice once you got them home, dont they?
Do you plan on replacing the Chimney stand on that one then?
To borrow aome wordage from James, that Flywheel is girthy, I like

There are no replacement chimney stands available. I could use a couple of them if there were any. I can add a light and switch or patch the holes.

Fortunately there are plenty of lesser engines that can be cannibalized for such parts. My Jensen 25 four bolt model was missing it's chimney stand but a Jensen 35 junker came to the rescue!! Not an exact replacement, but with a bit of manipulation it was up to the task.

Do the heaters work or haven't you tried them yet??
|

It wouldnt be impossible to patch that one, but I was thinking more like Roger. There have to be many of lesser stature that could do with either a Chimney Basectomy or a swap. I have to admit that even with the extra hole, that is an exceptionally fine engine. Still cant get over that nice flywheel.

Nick

Wow! They look a lot nicer.

Mister Occlusion

A patch and putty job ought to do it.
Does the black box model 20 use a taller than standard stand as well?
I always have trouble with scale when it comes to the larger models. The proportions are nicely maintained through the Jensen line and it gets difficult to appreciate the size of the larger models without SxS comparisons.

I haven't tried the heaters yet.
I have replacements in stock if they are needed.

I will likely sell one or both of them at some point.
I feel the need to have a little fun with them first.
They are both great pieces. The black firebox you all know about from my recent ebay description as it is the same only in much better condition.
The other one is a real intersting transition piece. Notice it has a dark blue engine casting, light blue generator casting, and a round sight glass boiler. The firebox is on backwards which you can see from the crud lines at the chimney stand end. It has a gray cord and 3 prong plug so the boiler and housing or at least the heater and cord may be a replacement. The seller told me they were given to him over 25 years ago and have been collecting dust under his workshop bench the entire time. I should ask him to look around a little more under that bench.

Sandy,
Most of the toy steam engines I find at shows are overpriced and considerably less desirable (to me anyways). I will often fine a 1970's Wilesco priced at 2-3 times it's value. On rare occaisions I find a deal this good on something I really like. I imagine that if we had toy steam meets here things might be a little different.
