Latest addition to the collectionThought I would share my latest acquisition with everybody, it is a Falk "candlestick" engine. It's in very good condition with original paintwork and doesn't look to have been fired a lot. There is a nice clear J.F. logo on the firebox.
I haven't been able to date it with any certainty but it doesn't have a safety valve which tends to imply it is fairly old. That, together with the "Made in Germany" legend on the base, leads me to think it is probably pre WW1 (pre 1914) Engines like this were imported into the UK in large numbers during the Edwardian era by stores like Gamages. After the war there was no way they would have been stamped "Made in Germany".

Now, that is very nice indeed. The condition is A1.
John, does the boiler have a centre flue?

No, the cheap ones were usually just pot boilers. The more up market verticals, like my Marklin did.

Now John, that is very nice and in great condition. I agree with all your idea's about dates. I'll look through my pics later tonight and see if I can find it in any of my stuff.
A lovely little engine.

Wow John, that's a find! And what a superb condition piece! I love that decorated base and that huge flywheel. Will you be running it?

Glad you like it. Its not as big as it looks it's about 20 cms tall and yes, I fully intend to give it a run.

The person next to the 'forum' stand at the BSHMC Toy Steam Rally had a Falk Vertical. I liked it a lot, sadly he didn't steam it

That's a really nice engine, John. One to be proud of in a collection, interesting about no safety valve, things have changed a lot since it was made.
Cheers
