Latest additon to the collectionHere are a couple of photos of the latest addition to my collection - a Cyldon 13/2. I've been after one of these for ages now so I am delighted to have found this restored, but still rather nice, example.

That's a beauty John. How does it run? I'm watching out for one too... that and a 13/4 for the set.

Very nice engine John. Looks like it has been restored to a very high standard.
Good to see.

Beautiful piece John...I have never seen a Cyldon in that long of a configuration, unique at least to me!

Thanks for the comments folks.
You are right about the chimney Cranko, I'm certain that it is a replacement. It engine been restored and slightly modified at some during it's life. As far as I'm aware The 13/2 did not normally have a union in the steam pipe like this one has. I think that it has been added, which would account for the cylinder block being moved forward about a centimetre.
I have not decided what to do with it yet, possible options are
Leave it as it is and don't steam it
Leave it as it is and steam it (and find out if the firebox paint is heatproof)
Try and return it to a more original condition
Any opinions?

I vote for run it and enjoy it
That's a fascinating valve system. Single acting, I take it?
That bit alone does it for me

Steam it John, I believe they are rather unusual in there valve operation. I didnt notice the union, usually the pipes are just a slide fit into each other I believe Great engine

I think you're right about the mods, John. Mine has a much shorter chimney and no union. Also, the valve gear is on the other side of the cylinder. Of course, there's no guarantee that mine's 100% original. It, also, has been fully restored so it's difficult to say what's original and what isn't.
Like you, I am reluctant to fire it as the paintwork is visually immaculate. Does your burner have the insides of the wick holders painted red?
I have run mine on a steam generator and it runs quite well. The "semi rotative" valve gear is ingenious and seems to do it's job admirably.

That's interesting Roly, I've just had another look at your one and I hadn't noticed that before. Odilon's by the way is the same way round as mine. There's no red paint on the burner.

By a two to one vote, mine seems to be the odd one out. It looks as if it could be assembled either way. The painted wick holders, I'm sure, are a whim of the restorer and obviously wouldn't survive a firing.

For what it's worth I think I'd try to return it to a more original configuration... then steam it!

I have a engine for one of those somewhere, i ran it once and it went quite well, from what I remenber you could use either steam port, and the vavle could have the lever pointing up or down and it still ran.
That one is in my grandmothers attic with the rest of my collection

Nice engine John, I like the running gear. I really looks nice but I think I'd run it, you can always use the excuse that it's not in original condition, .
Cheers
