lever type mamod whistles and regulators.i finally made my first taper type valve. but!!! it had small leaks????? try as i might i couldnt get the seal... now.... old mamod valves work a treat and appear to be "scored" in the taper but dont leak.????????many here have asked "how do stop the valve leaking"???? pondering this against my new valve a sudden thought occurred!!!!!!! ??????? i wonder if by applying some thick steam oil to the valve ... tighten it up.... and steam and let the heat "bake" the oil to a fine coating inside the valve!!!! hmmmm well it worked a treat!!! at first it leaked and then sealed. a second application worked a treat. a future inspection of all my mamod valves and whistles revealed black "smudge "marks both on the taper and inside the body of the valve.
if you zoom in on the taper part in the pic.... you will see what i mean.the black rings are dry old oil l. THIS WHISTLE DOESNT LEAK!!!!
if this taper was cleaned bright(not the outside the outside can be polished but not the inside part.) i reckon it will leak. ive always applied a drop of oil to my whistles and valves and they dont leak.little have i known that ive kept the "seal" of the valve in good order by doing so.
