LGB starter set I have just put a deposit on a starter set for my son who's Autisitc..its his birthday next month and as he's Autistic it isn't safe for him to handle a live steam...The starter set is an LGB "G" scale engine with 2 carriages and an oval of track and controller..I know the controller only works one train and in the future I'd like to add more to it for him...any advice and info would be helpfull..
He had a little play on the set outside the Back2bay6 shop and was so excited at being allowed to drive the train...I know he's going to be over the moon when he opens his present!!
On the Garden Railway I have got 30ft of track at the moment and need to buy another 60+ ft of track so no photo's at the moment!!
even though I did lay the track out on my paved back garden but the riven slabs even though they look flat- the riven design means they have little ridges and that caused my train to go off the rails so that showed me how you all have said the track must be dead flat is sooo true!!!!!
In my plans I've decided to take the track over and around my water feature so any info on bridges would be greatly appreciated...DL

If you want to be able to run more than one train at the same time on the same track you really need to get DCC control.
I know they make it for the smaller HO locos so I guess you can get it for the bigger ones. Its a small computer chip that is put inisde the loco and it uses a special controller to send different speed and direction signals to the different trains.
The other option is to turn the trains to battery power and fit each train with a radio control that will let you give direction and speed control.
I've never done it myself but have seen trains that other people have done it to.

more info pleasecan anyone give me more info on DCC and radio control...I have seen a few trains that have the chip already in the train- but how much does the DCC set up cost..and what are the pro's and con's of each set up? how long would the battery last if i had remote control....
I think I'm going to have to try and do a set up so i can run trains or the power from my conservatory...or buy a small shed but the only place for a shed is next to my conservatory and both options mean I have to do a removeable area as I have a path between the two.....the other option is I will be having an outside power source in the area of my pond but would then need a building such as a train station to house the controller...

I have seen ones fitted with a large gel cell battery in the first wagon behind the loco. Fully charged they give hours of run time.
Did a quick Google search and found this that may be of some help.

You really cant beat an LGB starter set, the loco (a Stainz) is very tough (I seen 1 left outside for a year and when used again it work perfectly) and the carriages are great to

:Pauly- maybe as you and My son Scott are both Autistic you could meet up one day- but Scott's Autism is different to your's as Scott can't properly reply to email's...but he does love Music...
Scott has a problem with his hand eye co-ordination so he finds little things very difficult! and he has problems with spelling!!
he can type but I have to tell him how to type each and every word-but he could talk to you on the phone...Andrea
PS: Scott love's driving trains but doesnt know anything about the make's & model's or anything along those line's

thanks for the info regarding LGB and Massoth.....I know LGB have been hit by the recession and Massoth I believe supplied LGB with parts so I hope Massoth sell the bits I will need...
I'm quite interested in the wireless version but a bit of practical advice would be helpfull....
I will have to do a search for Massoth to see if they have a web site- or if anyone will take over LGB...???

Apparently Marklin filed for bankruptcy on 4 February 2009 - does anyone know who bought them up as they are still trading?

I was told 2day the receivers are trying to sell the company as a going concern and at the moment are still sending out some stock
|

I heard that Marklin were trying to make up for their poor sales by increasing their prices and trying to market their products more towards the collectors market, because these are limited in numbers, sales dropped even further as they were selling less and getting into deeper problems.

the starter set I have reserved was £275....but in a shop I went to yesterday the NEW stock was well into the £350+ for the same item....the store assistant tried to sell me one from the old stock at £290...saying the new stock was a hell of a lot more expensive!!
but luckily I'd seen the cheaper one before I went and I was really looking at other items...my only worry now is the other items I want and cant afford at the moment ar going to go up at the same rate!!!!!! and in todays climate we want stuff to go down not UP!!!

The only Non - live steam -trainset I own is the LGB - passenger -starter set ! These sets are sturdy and well constructed. You put the trains and carriages on the rails and they will give you a lot of fun. To build up a collection of trains and rails and accessories ebay is the right place to look at. I got that train set when my nephews wanted to change the trainset and a big loop of extra rails for a computergame. I willingly agreed to that deal: one piece of rail costs 7 when you buy it new. I got 50 pieces with the trainset and the boys wanted a computergame that costs me only 50 . So I got a lot of train stuff for a more than reasonable price.
Am I lucky?
cheers Joe

"STRG" is the same as "Ctrl" on an English keyboard.
So it would be Ctrl+Alt+e
You can also try
"Alt Gr"+5
That also produces a "" on my keyboard.

Diamondlady will have to try all the alternatives.
But on her keyboard it will probably be the same as on yours, Alan.
Seeing as you both live on the same small offshore island.
