Look what came in the post - thanks James!Well, here's something you don't seem everyday - a Northerner and a Dutchman exchanging gifts.....Jim and I decided, without consultation, that a bit of moral support was in order....you can see what I sent him in another thread, and unbeknown to me he had posted me this - the tube pattern you see in the picture. I already had a pattern I swapped with him some months ago, and they go together very nicely! I've done little to them, just cleaned them up , bit of wax on the paint and a bit of peanut oil on the wood - came up lovely....
And, can you guess what the fluffy stuff is??
I love these patterns....they're nice to handle, it's a very direct link with your (I'm a foreigner, remember) industrial past - feels like I'm holding history.
So a big thankyou to our Jim....it's the small acts of kindness that really teach you who your mates are.

The patterns are in great hands, but why did James cut his hair?

Very nice Moose...they may have gone to a "foreigner"...but one with firm roots in the country they came from and surely to be loved and cherished in one of the finest toy steam collections in the country. Sure beats letting them turn to ashes.

Wow they sure scrubbed up well Moose!
They look great, would have been such a shame if they'd have gone up in smoke

Aye, I agree. I love them, I'll treasure them and in time will pass them on to my kids, whom I will teach to do the same.

Nothing wrong with Rotterdam...
I was hinting at the reputation the Dutch and the Northern Brits share for being tight b*stards.

Notherners yes Dutch really, not one I have heard before.
I love going to Netherlands and I have always received a very warm welcome there, one of the few places in Europe where the Brits are still liked?

Oh yes, the Brits are still liked in Holland (apart from the stag parties). The liberation in '45 is still very much living memory, so Brits and Canadians are generally appreciated.
The thing about the Dutch being tight comes from Belgium.....it's OK, we say the Belghs are thick....here's a typical Belgian "Dutchman Joke"
Q: "How does a Dutchman puke?"
A: "With his teeth clenched to keep the big chunks in"
Yum!

That'a great swap, love the tresses from James' wig. James I though you were a Victorien not an Elizabethan,
Cheers

And there was I thinking that you're the type of Scotsman who disproves that old chestnut!
