Very nice. Is the first one an all brass sel. Brass firebox looks great.
Nope not an SEL but its a CK Crecent engine. Made in japan and sold in this country. They done boats too. Its larger than the one Jay owned so im guessing its a No.2
My SEL is in the workshop awaiting a new saftey valve bush making and fitting as it was owned by a caveman previously

Oooh, a nice selection Will, that CK is a beauty.
Theres an interesting artical in Toy Steam News about them.
There is always talk of the burner being dangerous, though Ive never seen one lit

Simple Sam
If you look at last years STWWW table of mine, you will see a peice of brass tube with a cap soldered on one end. I was going to make an engine and keep you updated. Well I made the engine but never kept you updated, so here it is!
It is based on Stan Brays "simple sam" but im a bit happy go lucky in the workshop so alot of the measurments where educated guesstimates! The cylinder was made to fit out of a peice of phospher bronze I was given that I had to machine down etc. So all a bit loose but it works.
Here is a video of it running and a pic of the finished engine. ]]
Bought these from somone at Twyford last month. The engine on the wooden base needed some attention. I had to re-lap the valve faces, put a flywheel on it and make a base for it to sit on. If I can find an old mamod boiler and firebox going begging I will make it up into a little steam plant.

Really love the little Philcraft engines, superb

Grandads Engines
These don't get steamed very often for sentimental reasons. The TE1a he bought when my mum was young. I'm told that when I could first walk I walked into his spare room where he kept his collection of cars and saw this on a shelf. I took it to the front room and spent ages pushing it around. That Christmas I was given and ERTL die-cast Thomas, Annie and Clarabel! It spiraled from there! When I was about 9 he took me to the Great Dorset Steam Fair for the first time. We went every year until he was too unwell to walk around the show. So instead he got that TE1a I fondly remembered out and steamed that.
The roller came nearer the end of his life. We bought it off the pub landlord for £30 and he restored it in his hospital bed!! This gets steamed a bit more often than the TE1a.
Anyway Ill stop waffling and show you the video.

Bitza Mamod
Bit of an odd one this, and I bet there isn't another like it! I aquired a boiler, engine frame, boiler strap and crankshaft from Te1adriver. I had a cylinder and a saftey valve. I made the piston, conrod and big end in the lathe.
Dan (Freespawn) produced the firebox, flywheel and base and the burner came from Manor Models.. roberts your mothers brother, fannys your aunt etc etc.
Not quite, The cylinder was from a Vap burner type engine, and the engine frame from a wick burner. We had to modify the cylinder face to get the steam to pass in and out. With lots of lapping and polishing it ran!.. So there you have it. "Bitza Mamod!"
Les
It looks good and goes well.
Sandman
Runs great and doesn't look like a bitza at all.
Good work.

Thanks for capturing that on video Will.
I love the buzzing sound they make and they are so quiet that when I run my own I can't hear them with my aged ears!
In other words, to me, they sound much better on your video than on my kitchen table!
