To read all about them you only need one book Col
Mamod the story of Malins models by PS Mailns.
Covers the whole histrory from 1936-1996 tells you about all models, engines, dates, factorys, everything basically.
We call it the 'bible' on here! it is a MUST for the Mamod collector! . It's around 20-25 pounds, they come up on ebay from time to time, and Amazon. You could probably order one from Forest Steam I imagine!
Buy that, and it's the only Mamod book you will ever need!

Another good book is Toyshop Steam by Basil Harley.
Similar to the bible, but printed around 1976?
Has a sort of history of model steam engines, and mentions other models too.
Nice read.
Just be wary of 1 misprint I found. States that for mamods, spring lever whistles came in in 1968, when it was really 1972

Don't bother trying to order the book from Amazon UK though.
They say they can get it but I ordered mine on the 9th of July and I'm still waiting..

Another possibility is the newsletter "Steam Toys Engines And Models" (S.T.E.A.M.). This is published quarterly and is available on subscription and the last issue was 20 pages. It does not just cover Mamods and is excellent for finding out about unusual stuff, for example the most recent issue has an item on Cyldon engines.
Incidentally for Mamod fans the latest issue has photos of a display put on at Kempton Park, 42 flat bed Hobbies & Mamod engines including the one and only SE4 prototype, TWO twin cylinder Minor 2s and TWO SC2s Drool, Drool
Details are the website http://www.steam-toys-engines-and-models.co.uk/

I second that. After a wait of more than 3 months I cancelled the order and bought one from PPS.
For this item Amazon are a waste of time.

Dare I say it, I got my Bible from Chasteam.
I know, I know .
But within 10mins of emailing him about it, I had ordered and paad for it
It was through his website, and about 22pound.
It was the only place I could find that would answer my email.
Only thing was in the back cover, he adds his only little advertisment sticker, sticking the dust cover to the book.
It could be a chance?
