Just connect it to your engine via drive band. and as long as you've got it connected to a light or something it works.

I just got mine out of an R/c Car. Just connected it up and away it went!

Make sure your motor feels really notchy when you turn it by hand the more notchy the moire powwwwwweeer!!!

If the motor is a standard permanent magnet DC type, it will work as a generator without modification. Just belt it up to your engine and wire up to a suitable lamp. Try to arrange the belting to achieve high revs at the generator.

do you think brushless motors would work

A low-rev motor also works better. I have one, but it's a work in progress.

Brushless motors will not work, at least not without some electronic fiddling. Strictly speaking, maybe a brushless motor would generate some sort of alternating current if you spun it really fast without the electronic controller attached; I'm not sure...

Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.
newsteamer123

well its going onto a gear
Mark-One

Floss works very well for drive bands, especially on weak engines.  Use the waxed kind and seal the knot with a bit of fire.

You could always file a small groove in your gear wheel by hooking up a battery to the motor and running a micro triangular file against the gear?
SlideValve

those little micro files come in handy a lot, and there cheap too.

i made a groove and tested it now i cant find anything grippy and long enoucgh
