Malins Models Book...a very pleasant readJust put down my copy of "the bible" and had to say how enjoyable a read that was.
Took just a few hours over a couple of days, but I found it enlightening and educational. Like "Old Yellar" it sort of ends on a bit of a sad note with the turnover of the company ownership multiple times after leaving Malins family hands...but it was well worth reading how the company came to be and it's various highs and lows.
If you have a copy and have not yet read it...you are in for a treat.
One question to those in the know...when the book was published in 1996, ownership then lay in the hands of the Terry family. Is that still the case today or has it again changed hands one or more times since??

I agree a very interesting read. I managed to buy mine new from the bookshop a few years ago so didn't have to pay too much for it
Yes I do believe the Terry family are still in charge

Yes it is. The company is owned by four members of the family. Two couples with the men having 45% each of the shares and their partners having 5% each.

Good to know that for the last 12+ years or so the Mamod firm has been in the hands of the same folks...perhaps that explains some recent innovation such as the Challenger model.
Here's hoping they retain production, profitability and don't outsource to China

Now Roger, if you ever want to get what you paid for the book out of it....
I am going to keep my eyes open for a reasonably priced copy also.

It is a good read like you said Roger! (this is coming from someone who never reads any books)
As the others have said the Terry family is still in ownership of the company. Models are practically made to order a much different take on some of the early pictures in the bible, showing all those models lined up on desks after production....
shame really but at least they are still going.... Enjoy it while it lasts
I'll have to dig mine out again and have a butchers!

Glad you have read it now Rog, I really enjoyed it as well. Along with TOYSHOP STEAM it’s my favourite.

It's a great read Rog - lots of information, I have two copies one as a mint keeper and the other as a ready reference.
I know Steve Malins has moved on to another life, but it would be really good to see it updated, errors fixed and new models included.
Cheers

It's been over 10 years since it was first published. During that time I bet information/models that were not available to him have come into the light....
