Really good . How do you get the rivet look
Kevin Klein

Thanks for al the compliments. The rivets seem to be a matter of intrest so I will tell you how I did them. They are nothing more than small dabs of 5 minute EPOXY. All you gotta do is mark out the placement for them and dab them on with a small diamater stick, preferably shaped down to a slight point and sanded flat at the end. The diamater will determine the size of rivet. You can also go over them again ftter it has set to make them more pronounced.

The painting was black vht spray paint and wethered with a combination of weathering powder colors and flat paint, especialy rust color (Testors rust) Several applications where done with a coat of Testors Dull Coat between each one.

My biggest problem is afixing a steering system, probably get a set from Wilesco, and the drive gear I have decided to use a shaft drive utilizing bevel gears, I have seen them in old photos, One on the flywheel shaft and one on each end of the  drive shaft running diagonally down and back to a bull gear on the wheel, gonna have to get ahold of the Mechanno Man.

Other wise, I have moved the rear wheels behind the fire box to extend the wheel base and in doing so they are further appart than normal and there are also spacers between them and the fire box so as to accomodate a drive system.

I will need to get a longer shaft for the flywheel for fitting the gear but I do not know if it will come out of the crank disk easily, havent tried yet, anyone know if it is friction fit or threaded "

The pully and wheel groove for the drive band are now missalignd so runnig it that way is out of the question.

Oh, and the thresher has no moving parts, unfortunatly.

I forgot to mention, the exhaust is now piped to the smoke box with brass tubing that was cut and solderd to size. The steam exit at the bottom of the cylinder block was drilled out half way and the exhaust pipe JB welded in place.

If you can't get the crank off, you might be able to use a longer one from another engine. Is the SE3 crankshaft the same diameter and throw? I can't remember.
johnreid

I cant think of any other manufacturer that would even offer to assist. Hats off to Mamod, I see a firm that is concerned about customer service, a  welcome sight these days.

Accucraft is known for its stellar customer service, but I agree. Hats off to Mamod!

Agreed.

Offers of help from a company itself is a rare occurrence these days.

Much appreciated and well done Mamod.

In no way meant as a criticism but those Mamod Steam Roadster wheels always look wrong to me when fitted to a TE. You can still see the tyre valve and the obvious recess in the wheel rim used to locate the rubber tyres. They are a fair representation of a wooden spoked wheel but the proper TE front wheels would look much more fitting. They'd look superb fitted with tyres and used on a traction wagon being towed by the TE though!

Mamod TE wheels look great with a thick rubber tyre on too, and the spokes lined and paintwork weathered too!
Dr. Rog

Thanks for all those clever tips Kevin. Its a real work of art.

It there a particular prototype engine that made you choose the wooden-spoke wheels? I realise that most north American engines used multiple round bar spokes and consequently are not easy to model.

I think you have proved that these valved engines should exhaust up the chimney. Is that "welding" a form of glue?
Kevin Klein

Thanks again everyone.  I am happy it ws satisfactory.  Found out that it will run with the drive band with out pulling itself off, gave it a couple of steamups lastnight and another this morning at the museum during my volunteering time. The curater suggested a video posting here, that will probably get done in the near future.

Dr. Rog, the front wheels where used because they are diferent and I thaught looked unique. There had been some engines with wood spoked front and back wheels. The JB Weld is a brand name for an epoxy type glue.

"Satisfactory" is being modest. If there was once a prototype with a given feature then a likewise model is authentic, rather than an impressionistic toy and that's an improvement in my book.

The success of the epoxy is very interesting and should encourage others. Thanks for the tip.
