Mamod Has The Power !!!!!

Mamod has the power

Some of you may have seen my accessory run at STWWW. 22 accessories, (or 18 and 4 lineshafts).

For those that missed it, below is a very short recap of it. Basically I had my doubts if it would work, and left an extra pulley on the lineshaft in case I needed an extra engine.

SE3

There has been talk of testing engine power. I still beleive 1 test rig, and different engines running it is the best test. So before packing the accessories up, I decided to run a different engine on it each day for 5 days.
Each day reducing the engine size. I didn't get technical with bore and stroke, just by the look/guess picked an engine that I thought was smaller than the last

It turned out to be a good test. I know individual engine pulleys are different on the engines, but that's how they come from factory, so that's how I tested them.

The only thing I tried to keep equal, was the main belt tension, and I started videoing each engine about 4 mins into the run.

I kept the vids seperate and short. Toward the end of each one, I show the engine running with no load.

First the SE2a

MM2

Still no problem. Seems equivalent or faster than the SE2a

1948 SE1 This one had to work a bit harder

SE1 Disc Crank Suprised me. I thought the lack of a decent flywheel would mean a fail.

MM1 Finally, the little engine that could   .
The biggest suprise of them all. In the early days of the forum there had been discussion as to whether a MM1 could power a Mamod workshop. I knew it could as I tried it, just never videoed it. But 22 accessories!!! Basically the same speed as the MM2 and SE2a.

Overall, I was really suprised. I thought I wouldn't make it past the SE2a.

These minor engines have a lot of grunt for their size.

Now to finish a bigger project. Big and chunky with meccano

Hope you enjoyed it

Jeez, Wallace. That has to be seen to be believed.

I would have bet against those Minors even looking at that workshop set up, never mind driving it.

What a great experiment.

I am not suprised at all, the MM1's and SP1's are highly underrated power wise.

Mamods are a lot of bang for the buck, lots of underrated power.
IndianaRog

Great demo Wallace...made a believer out of me!!!

ministeamer

...Wow...
I'd love to see a TE on that..
igy569

That was very kewl.   But.. I already knew about their power, you just proved it....

Thanks for the comments.

Apologies to whoever PM'ed me about the drivebands. I didn't take note of the member name and cleared my inbox

But in answer to the question you asked.....

The black bands are like oring material (nitrile rubber?). Just cut them to size and a drop of good quality superglue works fine. I use loctite brand, gel superglue, but I really think any will work.

They are so much better than the spring belts which don't have as much forgiveness if a bit too loose or tight. The rubber stuff doesn't slip and is easy to get the right tension.

What are you feeding those Mamods Wallace?

This is exactly what these engines were built for. Great videos mate
