Mamod Loco Modifications...I've seen a few Mamod Locos which have been modified and parts used for project locos, one of the biggest transformations was the Garrett pictured here.
I was wondering if anyone has seen Mamod loco chassis for the powered bogies on a double Fairlie Loco?
That would really be something!

A looooooooooong time ago Mike Chaney showed me a Mamod double fairlie under construction, although at the time it was not in an advanced state - basically it was the body of 2 SLKs bolted together with one long boiler running through from smoke box to smoke box. The boiler at the time was just a copper pipe and I do not recall seeing any power bogies for it.
I have often wondered if it ever got finished - surely someone somewhere must have done it?

I don't like the idea of the mamods bolted together much! It'd need to be articulated to go around any sort of real radius.
If it was done well I think it'd be great - the narrow width of the Mamod with it's inside frames would lend itself to it...When you take the front buffer beam off it even looks a bit like the fairlie cylinders.

There was a picture of one in Railway Modeller a few years back. Along with a article on how to convert a Mamod to the FR Prince

I've seen two Mamod locos joined into one engine but I don't think it's quiet what.
Its a Beyer-Garratt

That was the Garratt I was thinking of - not a million miles from making a double fairlie though. Would really allow for a quite large boiler to be fitted too.
