Mamod Minor disc crank has arrived in 5 days from Canada!Well I blame the forum entirely for my lasted purchase here-
and its my 1000th post as well- a real fanatic
Sandman- who had 2 ( ) of these most beautiful little ones at the front of his display at STIA. I nearly asked him if he,d sell one,
but he was so glassy eyed about them I could see it was a non starter- cant blame him eh
Mc-Mc whose avitar is the disc on the MM1
Mr O for alerting us to its existance on ebay
And the rest of you for not bidding
i got it for $23, and the $20 shipping brings a total of £23 for this machine.
Its so sweet and in amazing condition- the firebox is untouched, no paint loss at all, same on the base.
The boiler looks possibly a bit dezincified maybe-
suppose as these early MM1s had no drainplug it was easier to leave the water in.
there is a tiny bit of soot on the base of the boiler, and no burner, but the seller thinks its in her attic
There were quite a few others mamods she sold and they all went quite high-
I can only assume thateveryone else thought that this one had a fake/ replacement flywheel
The disc/ pistons stuck, but oil will sort it

Thats a beauty!
Very early one too, the MM1 got a raised base some time before the others in the SE range
The corrosion may come off the boiler aslong as its not gone through then it'll be fine
Want to sell it? just kidding

Lovely little engine.
One of mine showed signs of corrosion, but I polished it out.
Once it starts it will keep going whether there is water in the boiler or not.
I found that the best way to keep it at bay was to give the affected parts a light coating of olive oil.
I've found it works a treat.
One of my favourite little engines.

They are fun little engines to run too

Wow Tom, that's in beautiful condition, a great buy. I don't think any of it's dezincification, except maybe the lighter coloured spot on the left hand end cap. I think the rest of it is natural aging where the glossy finishing coat has come off. An excellent addition to your collection.
Cheers
Chris
PS, , still on dial up not all the pics had loaded up, I see what you mean about the dezincification on the endcaps now, hopefully it'll polish off, If not you may be able to get a scrap MM1 to get the end caps off.

Very nice little engine and no one can complain about that price. Now I've not thought about running engines at work. I think they would set off the fire alarms where I work.
