mamod pistonsHow are mamod loco pistons fixed to the con rod?
are they just a press fit and and if so what is the best way to get them off? I ask as I have a couple that are a sloppy fit in the cylinder and letting steam escape. I was thinking I could turn up some new one to be a good fit.

I have only worked on early Mamod locos so the design may have changed. Mine had a rubber centre bushing in the piston, presumably so that the concentricity tolerance could be relaxed. I replaced them with conventional pistons with complete success.

In the 'o' ring cylinder upgrade cylinders and gas flow cylinders as used in IP Engineering, PPS, Dream Steam the piston is a press fit onto the piston rod. The MMS and Mamod just have the rather strange affair as illustrated in the above link.
