You have your work cut out there.    Good luck.
johnreid

I wish that they had not gone to the chrome fireboxes
Sandman

Lots of corrosion there.

Still, it will look all the better when finished.
Mitch

You've got quite some work to do there But you're already off to a good start with the boiler.

Well, he told me that too, and send me the side panels for the new SP5, they will not fit.

I think the only way to get the side panels looking nice is painting them black, chroming is just so expensive
I you like, you can check out my (failed) sp5 restoration here, somewhere in that topic there's also a comparioson image of the new and old SP5 sides.

Les

Great job so far.

Just goes to show almost anything can be restored and repaired with time and effort

Very cool,     The silver looks great. The modern sides do not have the three embossed squares and would look out of place. I suspect You have the ideal solution.
Wallace

That silver looks great. Nice job.
Les

That looks 200% better already.
Sandman

Like the silver.

It'll be interesting to see how it copes when fired.

Coming on a treat.

I hope it will cope it is vht paint temperatures up to 1110°F, 600°C  I have had no problems with the black gloss so see how this silver paint copes

When I was in engineering, we used a silver high temperature industrial paint and it was excellent.

We found it to be better than any other colour for standing up to some pretty high temperatures.

I've got high hopes that it will work out fine.
igy569

Graham-Jilly

Burnmafingers

What a great idea! I didn't know they made also silver VHT paint, I was already making plans to paint the chrome sides on my SP5 black.
