Mamod TE familyI thought as I was sorting out my engines that I would take a family picture of my TE's! . This isn't really something i've been concentrating on to be honest, just grabbing one here and there when I could for whatever price. I have most of the different ones, not exactly Manxy or Kritika but i'm making a start on it.
Mamod TE's 1963-2008:
The TE1 nut and bolt from 1963. One of the first ever produced. The canopy changed to the normal ribs a year later.
A 1965 TE1, when the nut and bolts were replaced by rivets.
This is quite a rare one. The first produced Mamod TE1a from 1967. Featured the straight forward/reverse lever arm.
This one from 1968-72 is the type with the more common forward/reverse speed control. It's the blue box version which is also quite rare in it's own right. The box is amoungst the best graphically designed by Mamod I would say.
This one isn't one of my best. I've stolen the cylinder/piston for another engine. It was produced in 1977 just before the slight glass hit the model in 1978. It has the firebox cut out in preparation for this, (sight glass was a year earlier for foreign exports)
This TE1a is quite a late one in comparison to most. It was made in the late 1980's early 90's I think. It's not a 'Malins' produced one anyway. Nothing wrong with it at all. Black reverse handle, darker green paint. Any ideas Manx?
This is the new TE1v made in Feb 08. I beleive I got it literally a day after production as It was probably made to order like most are these days. I really love it, and without a doubt Mamods best running engine they have produced. Also one of the most powerful engines available from mamod.
The boxes, well the grey one is a little worse for wear, it doesn't exactly have a bottom
Old and new side by side. Not much has changed really. The heart of the model is still very much the same. If it aint broken why fix it? it's worked for years and years and years!
I'd like to get a kit version yellow and black one at some point. Plus a boxed white carton from 1972-1976. Then i'll be happy. I won't go nuts with all the special models as I don't really think I can afford to anyway, but i'm more into the early flatbases incase you didn't know . I have another couple TE1as but they aren't complete and they aren't much different in age. One is from 1978 the first sight glass model which was my second Mamod, the first I bought off ebay.
Cheers!

Cheers Lew
Ive not got a lot of room, I'm lucky most of them are boxed so they can be stored easily, if none were boxed I could only have about 3-4
Get yourself a new TE1v or an original 63 TE1

And I thought that my owning two SR1A was to many of the same thing
I can only go so long and I will end up buying a TE I am sure, but the Challengers are still too expensive for my budget.

Thats the thing John even the early TE's can command a price close and into the range of the early flatbase models.
The very first TE1's can fetch over £200, not bad for something made in 1963 . On the other hand you can pick up the later TE1's for 30-40 pounds

Good to see all the boxes as well.
You just can't beat the TE. Seeing them all together like that only makes them more impressive.

thanks for this James, I love seeing a line up of different tractors, shows you how far they have come!
I only have two myself, a N&B TE1 that needs restoring, I'm not doing it to original spec as it needs a new firebox and I'm just going to buy a new gauge glass box and rivet it to the old cowl. I'm also going to paint it into a new colour.
the other one is as you probably know Bessy, my pimped 1968 to 72 TE1a. Quite a lot of new bits on this engine, but the basic engine is still very much 1968-72 vintage.
Was the piston valved tractor the one you sent back to be repaired or did they send a new one?

Cheers guys, there are still one or two that I would like
Its a different one, I sent the other one back to the factory and they sent me a new one! This one is now 100% fine
There are too many variations for me, to collect them all but one from each box change/era shall do me nicely

A great display there MM, and a few more have indeed crept into the line up.
The paintwork on the blue boxer is like new, must have hardly ever been used.

That is a great show of your Te's mate.
Very interesting to see the shades of green

You're missing the one with the white canopy supports. If you had that one you would have one of each stage of the TE's development

At least those stay cheap enough for him to complete the collection.

Looks like you're going to have to start collecting those "heavy duty" TE's now. What brand are they, Wilesco or something?
