LOL!!
MamodFan

i thought you might like to see some pictures of the long lasting wick in action.
the first pic is of the wick installed in one of my burners

the next pic shos the flame height at 1 minute burn time

this picture shows the state of the wick after 10 minutes, burnt but set like a mantle in a gas burner.

this shows the wicks after 1hour 30 burn time nothing has been done to them

this shows the flame height at 1hour30, it is comparable to 1 minute.

the final picture shows the state of the wick at 2 hours burn time and there is still plenty of life in it
Mamodman123

Wow thats good stuff!

PErfect for loco burners!
Cranko

i can get 5/32" and 5/16"mm round, i will ask about flat. as for 15-20 hours i dont know i have never kept count on hours for that long.
Chris

I returned home from work this afternoon and found some of Mamodfan's wick waiting for me to try.

I wanted this to try in my Luton Bowman burner, which is a pretty poor design. The wick furthest from the burner doesn't get fuel quick enough, and I find I get a couple of goes out of a cotton wick before it has chard too much...

The wick from Mamodfan looks great quality, and is nicely braided together. A bit too thick for the luton bowman burner but after much cramming I managed to get it in and have a run (maybe the smaller size would be a better fit for this type of burner).

Obviously the wick can't solve the design problems with the burner, but I am happy to report that after one run of the engine the wick is showing no signs of charing. Just a slight discolouration. It looks as if it will last for many runs in this burner.

I have yet to try it in the loco meths burners, but think it will work very well in those as well.

It comes highly recommended.

Do you know if it OK to use in German type burners- thinking of the covered Bing type.

The Open Falk or Doll burners I guess will be fine.

Thanks

I have not tried it in those  and i dont see why it would not work,  it looks like normal wick but it does not burn out
steamyjim

Burners can be different but the 6.35mm should fit, that is what G and J used successfully.

Yep. I'm picking my new wick up at the STIA.

If you don't mind me saying MF, could you maybe give the members an idea of what spares you might have for sale on the day?

It would be a good chance to pick up spares without postage.
MamodFan

I will be taking most of what is on the web site, I wont have extensive stocks though.
James

You cant go and pick Brass tube of the trees for free James.

As you are aware from previous parts all of my work is to a very high standard and parts will match originals as closely as possible, all that takes time and effort.

In addition to the component there is tooling to be made to enable me to form the brass correctly.

But hey ho, if forming tube on part of a trailer produces a chimney that is acceptable to you then that is fine.
James

Oi oi there's nowt wrong with the muck spreader LOL

Actually brass tubing of the right size and thickness is difficult to find and is very expensive
MamodFan

James wrote:

that is what i said, if you can get a good result from the spreader then use it.

Look at what can be done with a couple of pieces of meccano and a dremel.

Just because it is not the way I would do it does not mean that it is the wrong way. I Like to see all the different methods that members come up with for making things.
James

Aye aye mate I weren't having a go I were buggering about

I dunno what to do! Would you part ex a home made chimney in of the same diameter (made from brass but got an extra ring of brass part way up)?
