OK, this wasn't supposed to be a quiz, but I think those are twin Cheddar puffins with a Proteus Boiler?
Am I right?
Or is it the Pelican/Puffin Maxi Boiler?
logoman
correct, wasn't sure about the boiler.
kusuchi
Hey, that's Wal.
Maybe Steve can ask him on Saturday.
mogogear
Easy to tell who the Graupner makers copied....

I got my Cheddar 3500 back from Mike (maccsteam) today, I had a problem with a burner not fitting properly, I needed a chimney made, another burner for the small boiler in the warship, and a few other bits and pieces.
very happy to have both boilers back, I think I'll pair the Cheddar with the TVR1A.

At first I thought this was a Puffin Maxi power plant, but something isn't right. Just checked one of the Cheddar catalouges and the Puffin Maxi boiler (the Proteus one) looks shorter and fatter than the one that is fitted into the boat, the chimney is also at the other end and the fittings are in different places
The engine units on the Puffin Maxi are also fitted to a tray and the pipework is different to the one in the hull.
The Puffin Maxi is as shown on the video. I would say the one in the boat was made from 2 Puffin engines and a

The boiler looks to me like a big version of the horizontal Pelican boiler as that has the chimney and fittings fitted that way

A Pelican Maxi?
Les
It is definitely two Puffin engines but the boiler is not a Cheddar Proteus boiler, this is what a Proteus boiler looks like.
steamyjim
After a bit more research what it turns out you have is a very early (1995) Puffin Maxi Plant. This had the early version of the Proteus boiler which is longer and slenderer compared to the later improve version or the CMB6 Long Horizontal Boiler. The early version was also supplied with the engines seperatley without a tray so different piping arrangements could be done easier
In 1995 the prices were
Complete unit RTR : £795.59
Complete unit machined kit : £645.08
Engine unit only machined kit : £193.88 (you would need 2 to make the whole thing)
CMB6 Long Horizontal Boiler : £269.80
Proteus Horizontal Boiler : £381.88

A Pelican Maxi?
No, the Pelican was the V-Twin version of the Puffin
See my above post it solves it

It is, just an old one
steamyjim
That is a damn fine boat Les, love the Proteus! Does it have the ABC or EGV? If so the old mechanical one or the new digital one?
kusuchi
Thanks Jim, Great research.
Nice boat, Les. Where have you been hiding that?
Can we see more of it?

If anyone has any Cheddar queries ask me, I have every catalouge since 1995 I was a year old when that was printed

Any chance you could scan them and put them in the Member's File Sharing Area? Realize this could be a big job.
My oldest son was 10 in 1995. Won't even begin to talk about me.

I'll have a go at one of them, a lot of it is repeated through the other catalouges so your not realy missing much
If I did them all it would be around 130 pages And that isn't couting the loco catalouge and various price lists and other stuff

There are 2 new boilers, the newly re-released Clare launch and a few new burners and bits and peices in it
I have one of the prototype boilers somewhere that was never released
