#2, so where is the first steaming going to take place?

3 does it for me

I chose number 2.
I like how it makes your eyes focus on the engine itself. You still have the background,
but it is blurry, along with the top of the boiler, which is a little fuzzy.
I think it just shows off the engine and the closest flywheel very well.

number 4 because I think it shows the engine at a good angle

I will wait until Monday to give my vote.

4, I'd say....best composition.

I like the Engine detail in 5 and the background in 2, overall 2 is the most aesthetically pleasing though.

Looks like 2 has a strong lead.

#2 gets my vote!

IF this one gets entered for EOM, please warn others as they will not bother to attempt to compete, hands down a unanimous winner.

But it will have to get drawn from a hat with an SE4.

In the US Virgin Islands.
When is the question.?
I have acquired a Dancing Partner for it.
When it arrives it will steam.

I like No 4.
I agree with Moose, it has the best composition.
I also like how the whole engine is in focus, but the background is still visible.
If you compare handrail pics over the last three months you will see how brown the vegetation has become. This is the dry season.
Next week is Carnival. It always rains on the parades.
Then everything becomes green again.
I will go with the popular choice.

IF I had a nice digital SLR I wouldnt need excuses to photograph that one again and again.
There again, the dance, photograph the dance and no "Thing" will be able to compete.

I think number 2, if you have access to a photo/paintshop type programme use it to tone down the very light out-of-focus houses on the left of the image as they are a bit distracting and draw your concentraton away form the center of the image. I love the engine.
Cheers

Well Monday is here and I have a very good view on the engine in all of its poses.
I am torn between the angle and background of number one, and the orientation of number two.
Maybe a combination of both.

I chose #5. Seemed to show the most engine detail. Not a popular choice though! Only one other any myself went with it! One hell of an engine. You can confuse the cruise liners and let off the whistle now and again. Three blasts for astern

... bloody hell, Richard (imagine Tom wearing a flat cap like James ), me was a thinkin' 'bout enterin' me Wilesco 'crematory' for a June EOTM. Maahd as well leave it t'after seein' yer wonderfill Märklin set so nicely in picture.
Seriously, Richard: I like nr. 1 picture most. It captures the beauty of your home, das Paradies, in dem Du lebst ... the Märklin seems oddly out of picture, coming from Göppingen by Stuttgart; ein schwäbisches Modell in der Karibik.
I envy you ... and will enter my engine, anyway! Though I think, as a true Democrat, that you shall win ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall from my Naval father, 3 blasts means my engines are running astern. The vessel could still be moving forward.
The whistle is very loud I've been told.
Were you ever here with the Disney 'Magic'. Her horn plays "When you wish upon a Star". Loud
My father had no idea what that indicated the ship was doing

Thanks Tom,
Sorry to have not responded to you directly before. Rest assured your comments have been most appreciated. In case you haven't seen it, here is a wonderful example of the original tradecraft of Goppingen.

Things may look good in paradise, but Nurenburg still represents the Mecca of Steam.
