My first engine, the Maxwell Hemmens oscillating marine engine. This one is modified to extract a little more performance. It has an engine cover to insulate the cylinder, a displacement lubricator on the steam line, and a custom burner. Unfortunately the small burner capacity is the achilles' heel of this engine, and as you can see from the scortched cladding, it's best not to steam it when there's a breeze.

It looks and sounds great! How long will it run for?

Thanks Steve.
See that I start the engine in the afternoon and it's dark by the time it stops
Actually about 9 minutes.

Very nice, I love the one speed, one direction marine steam plants.

I do like that one, the scorched cladding only shows that it has been enjoyed, maybe adds to it some too.
I only have one clad boiler and accidentally really burned it ( more than a scorch ) but after a while it grows on you as one that is experienced and not a shelf queen.

As a confirmed small marine engine fan, I really enjoyed watching that one.
Thanks for the video.

as all of your engines are- druel worthy

The engine Hemmens used looks very much like an SEL marine engine of the type Mamod used on their marine rigs for awhile. I have always thought the SEL marine was a stout little thing with lots of power.
Does anyone else see this resemblance?

I noticed it in the engine frame and flywheel.

I agree, when i first acquired it I miss-identified it as a SEL.

Thanks to Stilldrillin who machined a fiddly part I needed for the lubricator on this engine. Cheers!
