Mecanno Steam Engine restoration (just to running order)

Here is a restoration me and my dad did on a horizontal boiler Mecanno Steam Engine a few years back, it was the first steam engine I ever owned. We bought the engine from a swap meet in the town of Manilla (not to be confused with the capital of the Phillipines!) for a bargain $40!

Here's some pictures of the restoration.

Flywheel in place. Note it's made from Meccano!

The engine is ready to steam!

Here it is, in full cry!

What do you reckon? It may be rusty, but it runs like a dream!
She runs with a characteristic clunking sound.

Hi Kaleb,

A big welcome to the forums for Toowoomba, it looks like it's spent some time in a farm dam. Iit's really good when you bring a rust bucket like that back to life, well done.

I wish more of my engines were a bit more used so I could do what you have done.

Cheers

A lick of paint and it will be as good as new.
I must admit the restorations I enjoy the most are the restoration of complete wrecks and you certainly have that one running well.
Welcome to the forum and enjoy your time here.

Welcome Kaleb from Indiana, USA.

You worked some magic on that one, hard to believe you got it running well again...tough little machines these are!

If you choose later to refinish the firebox, use high temp paint like VHT or barbeque paint that can take the heat.

best wishes and again, welcome,
roger
